The Director, Engineering-Recessed/Residential Products will be a critical member of the leadership team for an exciting and growing residential and light commercial line of products, reporting directly to the VP/GM of Recessed and Residential Platform.  The key business strategy is connected lighting, and this role will play an integral part in leading the transition for connected home, as well as responsibility for continued growth and innovation with mechanical and optical lighting fixtures.  The role consists of direct reports as well as indirect matrix resources across hardware, software to deliver exceptional products and the connected home system.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

•Develop and implement the strategic technology plan and a comprehensive connected home lighting product roadmap with the VP/GM, Lighting Division VP Engineering /CTO , Product Managers, and Marketing Directors of the Recessed and Residential  product platform.

•Continued innovation and driving success in existing mechanical and LED lighting fixtures, comprising of 60%-80% of time initially, working closely with peers in Program Management
•Conduct business-level verification, reliability and market testing of new solutions.
 •Attract, develop and retain mechanical, hardware engineers and software developers for increased capacity to execute a connected lighting product roadmap.

•Successfully motivate and work across matrix organizations and with 3rd party vendors, firms, and  suppliers to deliver an exceptional user experience for connected products, apps and services.

•Successfully identify, cultivate and manage third party software and hardware suppliers to deliver an end to end connected home lighting solution, on time, in cost, and within quality requirements.

•Oversee the execution of NPD (New Product Development), support the stage gate presentations,  and VA/VE (Cost Out) programs.

•Justify investments, secure funding and achieve product platform financial goals for VA/VE and other engineering supported financial metrics.

•Manage R&D expense and Capital spending for the Recessed and Residential product platform

•Interface with peer  directors of Engineering and Program Management in Lighting, to leverage best practices and synergies.

•Facilitate agile development and product idea generation and operate as a key leader in developing  new business models and products through available data within connected lighting portfolio.


 



Basic Qualifications (Including Educational Requirements)

:

•Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from an accredited institution

•A minimum of  10 years of directly related engineering experience

•Minimum 5 years of leadership experience in engineering

•Must be legally authorized to work in the US without sponsorship.

:

•Demonstrated success launching IoT or connected products including experience with hardware, software, mobile, and data analytics in excess of $200M.

•Broad based technology experience including development & implementation Internet of Things (IoT), relational databases, SQL databases and applications development

•Bachelor’s Degree  Electrical, Electronic, Mechanical or Computer Engineering or related technical field.

•M.B.A.

•Professional Engineering License

•Smart device experience

:

•Experience in working with third party software providers as suppliers and/or partners to create customer solutions.  

•Technology Breadth: Demonstrate architectural best practices applied across a breadth of technologies to solve organizational problems, articulate roadmaps for future development and understand the interaction between infrastructure, operations and development in hardware, software, and analytics.

•Technology Depth: Demonstrate detailed knowledge of concepts, implementation, patterns and issues of multiple technology areas.

•Strong leader of people, with ability to develop technical talent and technical leadership.

•Ability to provide coaching and direction on both employee and engineering issues while maintaining a positive customer and results focused culture.

•Operational focus with the ability to manage multiple projects, programs and activities successfully using best practice processes and management techniques.

•Experience working with international suppliers, designers and engineers including remote engineering teams.

•Experience developing products for and working with large retail customers.

•Strong network of third party hardware, software, and analytics companies and people
