Position Overview
  • This key role manages Baxter's external reporting process and is responsible for the preparation of Baxter's Annual Report and SEC filings.
  • Provides excellent exposure to the financial performance of Baxter and each of its businesses, and includes close interaction with Baxter Finance personnel at all levels in the organization and in all regions of the world.
  • Ongoing communication with business unit managers and Investor Relations, Legal, Tax, BAS (shared service center), Global Planning and PricewaterhouseCoopers.
  • Reports to the Assistant Controller and supervises a team of two managers and three senior financial analysts.

    Critical Responsibilities

  • Manage the preparation of the Annual Report and 10-Ks, 10-Qs and other SEC filings
  • Monitor GAAP and SEC developments and lead the adoption of new accounting and disclosure rules. Work closely with external auditors.
  • Support Investor Relations and senior management in preparing for quarterly earnings releases and responding to investor and stock analyst inquiries
  • Oversee the pension and stock compensation accounting functions
  • Provide structuring assistance, accounting and policy counsel on a global basis with respect to Baxter's significant, unusual and complex transactions and events in a variety of areas, including revenue recognition, acquisitions, divestitures, R&D collaborations and other alliances, asset impairment reviews, contingencies, stock compensation plans, financial statement classifications, and other areas
  • Coordinate and be integrally involved in managing the global relationship with the outside actuary, the determination of pension assumptions, and other global pension plan-related matters
  • Prepare various presentations for the Board of Directors and Audit Committee
  • Maintain and update Baxter's Financial Policies and Procedures Manual
  • Provide formal and informal GAAP and policies training to Finance employees globally

    Specifically, this position is primarily involved in accounting research, reviews and consultations associated with Baxter's more significant and complex transactions. The position leads the adoption of significant and complex new accounting and disclosure standards. The position will also lead other significant projects, which vary based on Baxter's business transactions and priorities (e.g., acquisitions, divestitures, new policies, new types of transactions, training initiatives, benchmarking, revenue recognition, etc.).


    Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or related field (or country equivalent). CPA required, MBA preferred.

    -Demonstration of key finance competencies and qualifications and typically 12 or more years of experience, with minimum 7 years public accounting, Big 4 preferred.

    -Expert knowledge of GAAP accounting principles and SEC requirements.

    -Strong business acumen and judgment as well as understanding of relevant business environment.

    -Ability to effectively influence and drive consensus with diverse stakeholders; demonstrated ability to manage multiple, competing priorities.

    -Strong negotiation, interpersonal communication, collaboration, and presentation skills.

    -Skilled at assembling and managing both ongoing staff as well as cross-functional teams as required.

    -Decisive leadership, with ability to generate ideas, develop alternatives, rapidly decide upon best course of action and drive implementation of that decision.

    -Relevant industry experiences a strong plus.
