The Director, Immunology Translational Sciences and Medicine (ITSM), will be primarily responsible for providing Translational Medicine and Early Clinical Development support for projects and studies within the Immunology Therapeutic Area. This position will play a ‘dual role’, contributing both scientific and experimental as well as clinical development expertise to ITSM projects. This work will include support for primarily Phase 0-1 studies with occasional Phase 2 responsibility.
ITSM is an integrated group of scientists that includes the Immunology disease biology group, the systems pharmacology and biomarkers group, and a Translational Medicine group, and partners with the Early Development (ED) group to conduct ED and experimental studies. Janssen Immunology has a history of bringing life-changing therapies to patients with immune-mediated diseases. The ITSM/ED group will provide the key learnings/insights on the next wave of novel therapies for these patients. We are looking for a Physician with a strong basic science background (MD PhD, or MD) to join this collaborative research group, and help us bring these new therapies to patients.
- Design Translational Plans and identify appropriate FIH, POM (and POC) study designs for NME early development programs.
- Design strategies for new indication assessments of development compounds and be an ITM ambassador within and outside of the ITA.
- Implement approved strategies for early development of NME's including FIH/POM/(POC) studies and for new indication assessment of compounds in development
- Have ultimate responsibility for the medical management and safety aspects of the design, conduct and analysis of clinical trials for which he/she is responsible; Direct medical monitoring needs are expected to be 1-2 studies at any given time.
Qualifications for the Director include:
An MD PhD, or an MD with a basic science research background is required.
Previous clinical research experience with a minimum of 3 years industry experience or considerable clinical trials experience in an academic setting is required.
Strong experience in a relevant immunology/inflammation disease area such as GI/Inflammatory Bowel Disease or Rheumatology is preferred.
Strong Immunology scientific expertise is preferred.
A record of peer reviewed publication and experience in scientific presentations is preferred.
The ability to work in a matrix organization with cross-functional teams is required.
The ability to travel up to 10%, including international travel is required.
