Nationwide is seeking an experienced architect with a proven track record utilizing internet and correspondence creation technologies. This position will report into the line of business CTO and will lead a team responsible for the architectural design and implementation of cross-functional/cross line of business internet and correspondence creation solutions. The architect will dotted-line into a high performing cross-functional team supporting shared functionality within Nationwide Financial.

The architect must have experience leading and delivering large projects, experience with Agile application development methodologies, the ability to lead projects made up of multiple teams and experience in designing and architecting complex solutions. Proven experience understanding and translating business needs into a comprehensive, cohesive architecture that meets all functional and non-functional requirements is required. Strong communication skills are also required with proven experience influencing others outside of the project reporting hierarchy including senior leadership.

The architect will be responsible for performing the role of solution architect in support of iMedia Web and Presentation Systems within NF IT Integrated Application Services. This role will be responsible for the high level governance of all projects executing within this teams. The architect will be expected to be engaged in operational support, developing application roadmaps, and manage risk and currency within the applications. They will participate in building business cases to receive funding to support actions identified within the roadmaps, this includes estimating costs and technical resource planning. The candidate will also be expected to help manage the vitality of technical talent by providing guidance, coaching, and feedback to direct reports and other leaders within their area of technical expertise.

The candidate must be able to demonstrate experience in the following areas:

• DevOps and Modern Web Architecture• Secure web design/coding practices• Ability to design and develop single sign on solutions that include SAML and/or Symmetric Encryption• A strong knowledge of modern web application development technologies including experience with AngularJS, Struts, Spring web frameworks• Application integration including knowledge of ETL, SOAP, and RESTful design patterns• Correspondence creation leveraging modern and legacy package solutions• Responsive design and website accessibility

JOB SUMMARY: Directs a team of architects (direct reports) involved in the design, development, and implementation of large-scale IT architecture projects. Determines user requirements, leads architecture design, plans, projects, establishes priorities, and monitors progress. Evaluates project status and resource utilization and implements changes to improve the team's effectiveness. May coordinate with other project managers to integrate project with other architecture design initiatives. This individual may be a First-level manager and have direct responsibility for people management. In addition to project deployment, responsibilities include career development, performance management, and pay determination and communication.RELATIONSHIP: Officer/Vice PresidentJOB RESPONSIBILITIES1. Provides cumulative insight to the development of architecture approach for all layers of a complex solution. Responsible for establishing policies, procedures, and standards for all systems within a particular area or function.2. Directs senior IT management regarding the infrastructure and applications solutions of large-scale projects.3. Directs the investigation, planning, coordination, and preparation of feasibility studies relative to new computer-based systems and modifications to existing systems that affect assigned area(s). Ownership of aligning all projects with ongoing IT projects.4. Approves systems proposals from a functional architectural perspective, by reviewing findings on feasibility, practicality, technical viability, and consistency and continuity for a common architecture.5. Within the One IT Community, provides oversight to project management in multiple business units on large-scale assignments as they affect computer-based systems across the organization. May participate in Enterprise level governance bodies such as ARB, TSB, ITEC, etc.6. Uses, articulates, and contributes to reference architecture, and owns policies and procedure standards within assigned area(s).7. Contributes to solution delivery framework, and owns policies and procedure standards within assigned area(s).8. Assists senior management in identifying and defining high-level objectives for one common architecture.9. Attends and/or speaks at industry conferences. Has multiple works published in industry publications and/or other electronic forums. Directs the development of communications that interpret the impact of events to Nationwide's common technology direction.10. Analyzes industry trends to ensure the common technology architecture in assigned area(s) is current with industry standards and new technology implementation.11. Acts as a subject-matter expert in all domains and solutions. Serves as an expert consultant to senior management and senior IT staff on large-scale projects and policies and standards.12. Takes a lead role in the technology strategy direction with the OCTO.13. Has final decision regarding the development of technical architecture and specifications for all systems in assigned area(s), while influencing the development and understanding the common needs of the organization.14. Manages the hiring, training, performance management, development, and promotion of associates.15. Performs other duties as assigned.JOB REQUIREMENTS:Education: Undergraduate degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Mathematics, or related technical field of study. Graduate studies in related areas preferred. BS or BA and product-related technical insurance course work (CPCU, CPU, LOMA) may be considered in lieu of graduate level studies. Technical certifications preferred.Experience: Twelve years minimum experience in Information Technology field. Three years of management experience.Knowledge: Must have extensive knowledge in information technology architecture components, principles, procedures and practices. Must have extensive knowledge in information design, controls and audit methodology for business systems and data processing environments. Must have a broad knowledge in information technology trends. Must have a detailed familiarity with applicable operating systems. Must have an in-depth understanding in insurance and financial services business models and operations. Extensive knowledge of project management concepts and techniques required. Must have a thorough understanding of financial statement preparation, budgeting and financial analysis concepts and techniques.Skills/Competencies: Proven competence in senior Architecture roles. Must have demonstrated excellent management skills as well as strong leadership skills with the ability to lead technical teams, including virtual teams. Proven ability to work with technology vendors in the delivery of project solutions. Must have a breadth of knowledge of technology and IT market trends. Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.
