Director of Global Risk

CHS has an exciting opportunity in our Global Grain Marketing and Enterprise Credit groups. We are looking for a Director of Global Risk to be responsible for all activities within the Risk function with focus on credit management with respect to both customer expectations and facilitation of the trade while maintaining the financial integrity at all times. You must have strong organizational, interpersonal, staff managerial and problem-solving skills with excellent communication, both verbal and written.

You will:
  • Define, align, implement and enforce the CHS Global Grain Marketing (GGM) credit and counter-party risk management policies and processes to ensure the financial integrity whilst also ensuring that trade can be contacted in a timely manner.
  • Actively participate as a member of the CHS Enterprise Credit leadership team and represent GGM interests when aligning divisional policies, process and procedures.
  • Develop, communicate, implement and coach the organization regarding new policies and reporting protocols. This includes reviewing all policies annually to ensure alignment with CHS.
  • Drive solutions to optimize the risk profile performance while increasing control and maximize the realization of opportunities.
  • Define and manage credit insurance strategies and their implementation.
  • Manage, develop, drive and optimize the GGM Global Risk and Credit Committee teams.
  • Support the GGM Leadership in counter-party and credit risk related matters.
  • Support the CHS Safety regarding risk management-safety related issues.
  • Maintain and enhance where possible relationships with external partnerships/vendors.
  • Lead the GGM Credit Committee and maintain all credit risk activities within governance guidelines.
  • Drive a various monitoring and reporting obligations.
  • Support the CHS Compliance regarding risk management and compliance related issues and fulfillment of required compliance tools for counter-party assessments.
  • Develop and apply analytics for measuring risk related to counter-parties, countries for sales, positions, etc.
  • Foster and promote a strong safety culture and follow all safety policies, procedures and regulations. Identify and communicate workplace hazards and correct or seek assistance in correcting unsafe actions or conditions.
Basic Qualifications: (required)
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 15 plus years of experience in credit risk management and counter-party assessments, business to business credit and collections, underwriting, credit insurance, finance or related field to include:
    • 5 years of commercial credit analysis
    • Strategic planning coordination, analysis, decision making and implementation trade risk management within large global businesses with international trade, finance and/or commodity merchandising and shipping components
    • Direct experience managing risk related to commodities, currencies, credit and logistics
    • Experience with international banks and financing
  • 5 plus years of management experience with direct and indirect reports of 10 plus employees to include cross-functional and global teams
Preferred Qualifications: (desired)
  • MBA
  • Experience in managing teams across multiple time-zones
  • Experience in international commodity trading with specific focus on agricultural trade
