Description of Specific Sector:

Translational research is an increasingly important component of drug development activities in Janssen Research and Development and the oncology pharmaceutical sector as a whole.  The Oncology Translational Research Department is focused on the identification of prognostic and predictive biomarkers and development of companion diagnostic tests that enable personalized medicine by guiding targeted, individualized use of therapies to the patients that will benefit the most.

Co-op Expectations/Responsibilities/Project Details:
  • This is a great opportunity for a Co-Op who has demonstrated some experience in conducting the biopharmaceutical or pharmaceutical laboratory work.
  • The lab scientist Co-op will work as member of the Prostate Cancer Translation Research Team and support a range of preclinical projects under the supervision of lead scientist.
  • He/ She will design cell biology or molecular biology experiments, execute laboratory experiments, analyze experimental data, generate laboratory protocols, write technical reports and present results to the team.
  • Laboratory experiments include cell biology techniques such as propagation, treatment, cell kill assays on immortalized cancer cell lines.
  • It also includes routine molecular biology techniques such as extraction of DNA, RNA and protein from cells or tissues, and carryout real-time PCR, western blotting etc.
  • He/ she should comply with laboratory safety, training and quality regulations.
  • The Co-Op will have the opportunity to be part of a highly dynamic team and work on novel technology platforms for cell and molecular biology research such as QuantStudio, Fluidigm etc. 

  • Co-Ops are encouraged to innovate and improve data analysis processes whenever possible.
  • Completion of one year college in a Biological sciences discipline required.
  • The successful candidate must also possess high analytical and communication skills and be willing to learn laboratory techniques.
  • These individual departmental openings provide Co-Ops with a six-month opportunity to become an integral part of their respective departments.
  • Co-Ops must be able to work 40 hours a week.
  • Students must be able to provide their own transportation to this location.
  • Students must be legally authorized to work in the United States and not require future sponsorship for employment visa status (e.g. H1-B status) now or in the future.
