Essential Responsibilities:

The Internet of Things promises to connect billions of sensors and devices from smart street lights to manufacturing facilities to power plants; its great potential is also its highest risk. As an Embedded Security Engineer, you will work on a multi-disciplinary team to develop cybersecurity tools and techniques that enable the "Industrial Internet," a ruggedized environment combining hardware/software to link vital assets in power generation, transmission and distribution, avionics, aircraft engines, healthcare and other domains. Your mission will be to secure these vital assets which are critical to GE, its customers and the greater population.

As an Embedded Cybersecurity Engineer, you will actively collaborate with scientific domain experts, GE business partners and customers to devise novel security solutions for a diverse range of products serving the Industrial Internet. This is a lab researcher position and you will be required to execute hands-on security solutions for distributed hardware/software systems from embedded edge devices, to control systems, to networks, to ruggedized, industrial servers/cloud. Your contributions will help ensure the security of the critical assets of GE, its partners and it customers.

As an Embedded Cybersecurity Engineer, you will

+ Work with internal GE businesses and external partners to develop and deliver cybersecurity solutions for diverse hardware/software applications

+ Benchmark emerging innovations and co-develop long-term technology roadmap in partnership with GE business units and external partners

+ Research and develop tools and processes to improve security, privacy, assurance and fault-tolerance of complex systems

+ Collaborate with world-class talent in many disciplines touched by hardware/software cybersecurity

+ Communicate with business leaders, customers, and technology providers

+ Contribute to project proposals and grow new project directions

+ Develop technical content and documentation, including re-usable libraries and reference architectures, to enable cybersecurity solutions to be quickly dispatched across a wide range of applications

Qualifications/Requirements:

+ PhD in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or related discipline OR Master's Degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or related discipline with minimum 3 years of experience OR Bachelor's Degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or related discipline with minimum 7 years of experience

+ Minimum 5 years active (day-in, day-out) programming expertise in C/C++ and Linux kernel/drivers

+ Demonstrated expertise in algorithms deployment in the field of trusted computing and/or computing technologies such as ARM, Freescale, Intel x86, Embedded Linux, O/S and boot processes

+ Demonstrated expertise working with hardware, in addition to software. Hardware could potentially mean hardware-rooted security, hardware tokens and coprocessors, optimization of code for specific hardware, or even hardware in the form of physical assets such as meters, turbines or medical devices.

+ Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills

+ Demonstrated effectiveness working across multi-disciplinary teams

+ Detail-driven with a strong drive to execute with rigor on important and challenging tasks

+ Strong analytical skills and clear decision-making

+ Awareness of both the systems-level scope of the Industrial Internet as well as the minute details of implementation across devices, controls systems, networks and server/cloud

+ Legal authorization to work in the U.S. is required; we will not sponsor individuals at the Bachelors or Masters level for employment visas, now or in the future, for this job opening

+ Must be willing to work out of an office located in Niskayuna, NY

+ Must be 18 years or older

Desired Characteristics:

+ Masters or PhD in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or closely related discipline

+ Hands-on expertise working with system architectures such as hardware-rooted security, high-assurance hardware/software, fault-tolerant computing, high-integrity systems and PKI/CA integration

+ Hands-on expertise in tools and programming languages such as C/C++, Java, Python, .NET, Windows, Linux Systems, Security Analysis Tools, Verilog, Device Drivers

+ Hands-on experience with security architecture, design, and implementation e.g. embedded device security, wireless security, cryptography, intrusion detection

+ Understanding of security standards/policy/regulatory landscape

+ Domain expertise in a GE-relevant technical field e.g. Power, Wind Turbines, Avionics

+ Demonstrated publication record

+ Self-starter driven to develop new ideas into funded projects

+ Experience writing proposals and obtaining grants from government agencies; U.S. Government clearance or ability to gain clearance a plus

+ Other: RTOS ,hypervisors/containers
