Amgen is looking for an Engineer to join our team. As a member of the Thousand Oaks Building 7 Manufacturing team, this role will support complex and challenging system automation initiatives. The Engineer will be primarily responsible for supporting manufacturing operations in Amgen's Building 7 facility through effective troubleshooting and ensuring automated equipment uptime and reliability. In addition, the Engineer is responsible for providing operational support, troubleshooting, optimization for automation equipment and applying advanced engineering principles to the design and implementation of new equipment. The role will also perform extensive programming, design, installation and lifecycle management of manufacturing process controls, automation and field instrumentation technologies. The Engineer is also responsible for supporting automation engineering in the design, specification, construction, startup and validation of process equipment and systems for capital projects of significant scope and complexity. The Engineer with also develop process control applications utilizing Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), Distributed Control Systems (DCS), Human Machine Interfaces (HMI) and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition systems (SCADA).
Position Responsibilities:
Identify system performance risks (i.e. single point of failure or obsolescence) and implement risk reduction strategies
Lead and execute improvement efforts, including identifying cycle reduction time opportunities, efficiency gains and yield enhancement opportunities
Support technical root cause analysis, incident investigations and troubleshooting on equipment (mechanical, electrical, instrumentation and control system problems)
Analyze problems, develop and propose engineering solutions in a scientific manner using data-driven techniques and analyses (i.e. Statistical Process Control, Six Sigma and predictive maintenance analysis)
Support new technology introductions by performing engineering assessments, implementing equipment modifications and supporting engineering runs
Ensures the logical, systematic translation of design requirements and constraints into process equipment/system solutions
Assist with project definition by supporting engineering studies and assessments for process equipment systems, clean utilities and production facility improvements
Support a safe working environment by complying with all pertinent environmental health/safety practice, rules and regulations
Basic Qualifications
Master's degree
OR
Bachelor's degree and 2 years of Automation experience
OR
Associate's degree and 6 years of Automation experience
OR
High school diploma / GED and 8 years of Automation experience
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Science or related technological field with experience in cell culture equipment automation
Ability to apply knowledge of engineering principles and ability to employ advanced techniques within area of automation
3+ years' experience in an operations/manufacturing environment
Direct experience with regulated environments (e.g. GMP, OSHA and EPA)
Understanding of industry regulations and ability to interpret in establishing current practices
Hands-on experience with manufacturing process equipment including advanced troubleshooting, reliability and performance improvements and design optimization with automated systems
Ability to apply advanced engineering principles to the design and implementation of system modifications, introduction of new processes and execution of capital projects
Develop technical solutions to complex problems
Strong leadership, technical writing and communication/presentation skills
Work schedule flexibility to support 24/7 operations, including occasional after-hours engineering coverage
