Engineering & Maintenance Business Unit Leader

Job Summary
Reporting to the Plant Manager, this role is responsible for leading an organization of  200+ employees and a budget of ~$60M.  The organizations making up this business unit include the Luling Plant Maintenance, Central Engineering, Process Control and Information Technology teams. This position is responsible for developing long-term business strategies, selecting and developing leaders and teams, and collaborating with other Business Unit Leaders to set direction for the plant.  The role is accountable for the safe, on schedule, effective and on budget execution of all maintenance and project work to meet the needs of the business.

Specific Responsibilities of this position
  • Provides expertise for strategic decision-making and problem solving
  • Sets organizational structure and ensures adequate staffing to meet business needs
  • Approves the annual Plant capital and Business Unit expense annual budgets
  • Completes periodic leverage analysis and monthly cost spending forecast
  • Provides leadership to drive proactive, predictive maintenance practices to improve equipment reliability, lower cost, and improve unit on-stream time
  • Manages execution of construction and maintenance work to meet regulatory, corporate, and site standards
  • Prepares annual goals for the Business Unit
  • Responsible for personnel development, including:
    • Mentoring, coaching, and training
    • Formal goal setting and performance feedback
    • Positive reinforcement and formal recognition
    • Career development opportunities and role succession planning
    • Redirecting feedback following Monsanto's performance management , as needed
  • Supports and facilitates corporate technical exchanges
  • Leads plant wide initiatives and drives consistent best practices
  • Supports and participates in company wide audits
  • Meets customer expectations and respond in a timely manner  to concerns
  • Ensures compliance with Environmental and Freedom to Operate requirements
  • Participates in safety inspections, as well as manages safety issues
  • Improves/Develops systems and work processes to deliver results

  • B.S. in Engineering (Chemical, Mechanical, Electrical) or related technical field
  • MBA is a plus

  • 10 or more years of previous manufacturing experience is desired or broad Monsanto organizational knowledge
  • 5 or more years of demonstrated people leadership experience

Ideal Candidate Will Also Possess:
  • MBA
  • Chemical manufacturing experience
