Engineering Manager – Operating Systems Team

Isilon is continuing to grow its world-class Engineering organization. The Operating Systems (OS) team is looking for a top-notch Development Manager. The Isilon OneFS Clustered Filesystem is based on the FreeBSD operating system. The OS team is responsible for adapting and maintaining Isilon’s version of FreeBSD, including changes to the FreeBSD kernel and systems services, implementing and enhancing device drivers and committing changes back to the FreeBSD community. Isilon is an active member of the FreeBSD open source community. The OS Manager will be responsible for continuing to build Isilon’s relationship with the FreeBSD community.
Isilon is passionate about technical excellence and seeks a highly-skilled, entrepreneurial Development Manager. The Dev Manager role at Isilon has many responsibilities. In addition to leading a team of software development engineers, the Dev Manager interacts with Program Management, Product Management, Publications, Sales Engineering and Global Services. The Dev Manager sets product direction, defines product features and schedules, is involved in design and code reviews, hires, develops and retains talent, and develops software as well.
+ Must be very technical and able to split time between leading and writing code
+ Ability to lead a highly-motivated high performance engineering team
+ 5-10 years of software development experience
+ Exceptional C programming skills
+ Excellent software architecture, design, implementation, test, debugging and problem solving skills
+ Ability to work successfully as part of a team
+ Strong written and verbal communication skills
+ Excellent interpersonal communication skills, e.g. negotiation, conflict resolution, etc.
+ BS in Computer Science/Engineering or equivalent work experience
Desired Domain Expertise:
+ Multi-threading kernel- or user-space programming
+ Experience developing both user- and kernel-mode software
+ Familiarity with the FreeBSD or other POSIX/UNIX operating systems
