**Job Description:** **ENGINEERING MANAGER, PROTOCOLS, OPENSTACK** Isilon Systems, a division of Dell EMC, is the leader in scale-out storage systems. Our **OpenStack** team, part of the data access protocols engineering organization, is seeking an **Engineering Manager** to lead their group. This group is focused on delivering true OneFS integration with OpenStack cloud infrastructure deployments, and is currently in the midst of delivering the next generation of Swift object storage on OneFS. As part of Isilon’s core product strategy, we enable our thousands of customers to work at a scale that wasn't previously possible by shipping a true clustered file system that can be expanded from a few dozen terabytes up to many petabytes. The goal is to package game changing technology, un-paralleled scalability, and record breaking performance into a product that is simple to manage and continuously delights our customers. If you are interested in building complex systems with high quality, and like working in a fast paced environment with smart, passionate engineers we want to hear from you! **JOB SUMMARY** As an Engineering Manager, you will be able to leverage both your leadership and management skills as well as your technical expertise every day. You will guide a development team to drive product features from initial requirements to final, on-time completion in Isilon’s OneFS product releases. Your experience in leading a team of highly capable engineers, delivering according to plan, and setting the strategic direction for our future OpenStack integration points will help us create industry leading products for Isilon within Dell EMC. **DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES** + Lead a software engineering team to develop software solutions on Isilon’s OneFS platform to enhance our customer’s ability to manage multiple petabytes of data. + Demonstrated experience attracting, developing, and retaining professional talent within a highly competent team of software engineers. + Vet architectural and design decisions within your area of core competency and advise other teams in cross functional technical decisions. + Demonstrate effective verbal and written communication skills across multiple teams enabling engineers to obtain accurate requirements, derive detailed designs, and produce high quality implementations. + Solve complex technical problems that deal with high scale, concurrency, and performance. + Contribute to the culture of quality throughout our broader engineering organization. + Possess a strong aptitude exploring new technologies and understanding how to apply them to new product releases and in customer facing support scenarios. **CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS** + BS in Computer Science or related technical field, and 10+ years industry experience with HTTP protocols, object or file based storage, UNIX/Linux systems development, or related field. At least 2+ years is expected to have been in a development management role. + Experience with OpenStack based cloud deployments or OpenStack development. + Ability to hire, build, and exercise performance management of software engineering teams. + Ability to lead a software engineering team through the software development lifecycle (feedback driven models and agile processes preferred). + Experience working on multiple product release cycles. + Excellent written & verbal communication skills in conjunction with an executive level presence that lends itself to managing both technical & senior level personnel both internally and externally to the Engineering organization. + Experience working with remote teams across the globe. **DESIRED DOMAIN EXPERTISE** + An understanding of the UNIX operating environment including system configuration, memory management, system calls, and multiplexed I/O. + Experience with network analysis tools (e.g. MS Message Analyzer, NetMon, Wireshark, tcpdump). + Knowledge of directory service protocols such as LDAP. + Experienced developing distributed systems. + Experience working on software projects developed in C/C++ and Python. **EMC Values:** When you choose EMC, you join a diverse world of innovative thought leaders.
