The Engineering Master Black Belt Leader is responsible for developing, coaching and monitoring the global engineering organization on engineering best practices and performance. The candidate provides expertise for engineering rigor during product design and implementation, technical training, predictive modeling/analysis, sustaining, etc. Additionally, the candidate continuously reviews and refines processes, makes improvements to eliminate waste/inefficiencies, aggregates/tracks KPIs and presents to senior leadership.

Close collaboration with program/functional management, electronics, firmware, software, chemical, mechanical and manufacturing engineering teams is necessary. Motivation and encouragement is required to ensure the engineering organization continually sustains and improves processes. The candidate will also work with advanced manufacturing and operations teams to coordinate product release processes.

Responsibility Statements:

• Champions initiatives that deliver continuous engineering improvement, waste reduction and cost/schedule savings
• Works with the engineering teams to drive execution and improvements
• Participates in design reviews and ensures engineering and DFSS tools are used where applicable
• Ensures design guides and design rules are created, stored and utilized by the design teams
• Establishes KPI's for the business, collects and analyzes data and develops improvement and audit plans
• Owns and present operation reviews with the CTO of the business and the CTO of Johnson Controls. This includes on-time, defects, patents, VA/VE activities, financial performance per project and total, CoQ, cycle time analysis and other KPI's determined by the business
• Communicates with senior leadership on status and mitigation plans
• Develops, coaches, and mentors others in the engineering organization on continuous improvement tools and methodologies to develop facilitators and leaders
• In conjunction with other Master Black Belts (MBBs) and Quality Champions, serves as a change agent in institutionalizing Lean Six Sigma quality
• Coordinates activities with the other excellence leaders (operations/MBBs) across Johnson Controls to ensure consistency of process improvements and control
• Establishes capability for engineering processes and is accountable for improvements in this capability according to agreed targets from functional management
• Identifies risk within the department or business and recommends improvement plans to minimize risk
• Applies technical knowledge and understanding to day-to-day decision making
• Partners with development and delivery organizations to participate in consensus on new product development, productivity and product maintenance
• Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals utilizing a wide degree of creativity and latitude
• Facilitates, trains, and coaches the organization including Black Belts & Green Belts in the use of Lean Six Sigma (LSS) tools
• Through completion of a training program on LSS philosophy, theory, and application tools / tactics, deliver breakthrough levels of improvement in process capability to reduce defects and improve response time while attaining world-class levels of quality

Job Qualifications:
Required Qualifications:
• Bachelor degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, Computer Sciences, Electronic, or Industrial Engineering from an accredited university or college
• 5 years of engineering experience in discipline such as design, applications, product service or field service
• 2 years of certified Master Black Belt experience with evidence of mentoring, coaching and the training of LSS Black and Green belts
• 3 years of experience applying statistical tools to process improvements and quality projects
• 3 years management / leadership experience in an engineering environment
• Proficiency leading kaizen events, value stream mapping and utilizing lean problem solving methods
• Strong communication and technical skills with the ability to quickly grasp technical issues/concepts
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Manages multiple projects under time constraint
• Very strong interpersonal skills with the ability to develop relationships and engage with people quickly

Highly Desirable Qualifications:

• Experience working in a geographically diverse development organization with multi-disciplinary teams
• Proven track record of driving effective change at all levels of an organization
• Demonstrated ability to motivate others and achieve results
• Experience in delivering Black or Green Belt training
• 3+ Black or Green belts coached to successful project completion and certification
• Participation in working sessions to discover and detail the current business state and capture existing systems and tools
• Experience working in a fast-paced Agile software product development environment
• Strong analytical and quantitative skills
