Eaton’s Fuel Motion Control Division is seeking an Engineering Test Lab Manager. The Engineering Test Lab Manager will be based in Los Angeles, CA.
 
Positon Overview:
 
The Engineering Test Lab Manager will be responsible for This position is responsible for overall leadership and supervision of the Engineering Test Lab (ETL) function and team. Its primary accountability is for technical and process excellence but its holder is also measured on personnel leadership, organizational development, and timely results. The position in a part of the engineering leadership team within the Los Angeles site operating unit and performs and leads activities related to testing, design, development, support, and service of hydro-mechanical actuation, flow control (valves), and related products (including electronic control units) and systems
 
Essential Responsibilities:
  • Ensure a safe test environment, test execution, and proactively address safety issues as it relates to test lab personnel and visitors, facilities, equipment, and test setups.
  • Develop and maintain best practices based on other Eaton sites and share best practices with other sites.
  • Manage a team of, technicians, engineers, and/or support personnel to deliver high quality technical output on time.
  • Provide technical advice and guidance to this team.
  • Participate in periodic audits, as they relate to the test lab, such as AS9100 and internal standards Author and maintain processes and procedures related to ETL, ensuring adherence to these procedures. Collaborate with other Eaton labs to develop consistent practices, procedures, etc. and actively participate in ACES lab process development.
  • Development of organizational capability/capacity and engineering/technical skills among staff to support the site and organization operating unit strategy. Maintenance of appropriate training programs to assure continuous learning.
  • Development of improved engineering techniques that add value to our products through weight reduction, standard work and test, more efficient hydraulic circuitry, reliability improvement, etc.
  • Development of documented technical standards around best practices and using lessons learned and cross-site collaboration.
  • Development and implementation of processes and tools for engineering tasks consistent with industry best practices. Monitoring to assure adherence to defined processes.
  • Continuous improvement of resource management, productivity, and first-pass quality. Generate and report metrics on a regular basis, developing internal goals to achieve higher-level metric. Use of tools including Design for Six Sigma to achieve that end.
  • Develop and deliver ETL budget, material, and resource planning to both engineering leadership team and site leadership team.
  • Coordinate with other site functional leaders to ensure clear and consistent communication regarding material planning, budget, etc. Identify risks and opportunities in these areas.
  • Support and execution of site operating unit engineering initiatives.
  • Participation in site engineering leadership team and in strategic planning.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Aerospace, Engineering from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience with Aerospace product development.
  • Minimum of 2 years of direct engineering management experience.
  • This position requires use of information or access to hardware which is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). All applicants must be U.S. persons within the meaning of ITAR. ITAR defines a U.S. person as a U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident (i.e. ‘Green Card Holder’), Political Asylee, or Refugee.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship now and in the future.
  • No relocation benefit is being offered for this position.  Only candidates that currently reside within the immediate geographical area of 50 miles of Los Angeles, CA will be considered.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with hydro-mechanical actuation and control products.
  • Master’s Degree in Engineering or an MBA from an accredited institution.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and experience with engineering processes/tools required
  • Proven track record in supporting complex, multi-year product development programs
  • Lean and Design for Six Sigma experience
  • Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication presentation skills and the ability to work well with customers and development team members
  • Ability to train and develop engineers/teams
