Responsible for the site-level environmental health and safety infrastructure. This role will manage a site EHSS team. Responsible for ensuring the local site EHSS operations are in compliance with federal, state, and local EHS regulations, as well as Johnson & Johnson EHSS Standards  Partner with site leadership teams to establish and implement site EHSS strategy and Management Action Plan (MAP) in alignment with the JJSC strategic imperatives and to achieve EHSS performance targets..
This leader will work closely with various internal and external stakeholders.
Internal: Supply Chain leaders, Commercial partners, Quality and other Site functional leaders.
External: Regulators and 3 party consultants or assessors.
  • Shared responsibility with site General Manager for EHS performance at the site (5%)
  • Partner with local management to develop and implement a site MAP to address EHS program deficiencies and ensure EHS regulatory compliance. (15%)
  • Develop EHS objectives for the site - auditing, analyzing, documenting, and reporting on their implementation and effectiveness to management via dashboards & reports. (10%)
  • Manage EHS professionals at the site. Set and monitor goals/objectives/assignments, provide adequate coaching/counseling, develop and monitor employee development plans, and provide recommendations as part of the succession planning, appraisal, and salary planning process. (15%)
  • Monitor and evaluate EHS risks of operations, including change management, ensuring continuous improvement of the EHS program to make it leaner and more efficient. (15%)
  • Provide upper management with ongoing consultation pertaining to environmental, health and safety regulations identifying the impacts of changes to regulations on key business objectives. (10%)
  • Develop and implement EHS training strategy for the site, ensuring key risk and regulatory requirements are addressed for appropriate audiences, including new hires. (5%)
  • Support and facilitate site EHS committees/teams to ensure implementation of the EHS program. (10%)
  • Maintain local ISO certifications (and other voluntary certifications, VPP/OHSAS) by ensuring site EHS management systems are aligned & maintained consistent with ISO and/or program standards. (10%)
Collaborate with other functions to manage EHS aspects of external manufacturers, suppliers and contractor programs. (5%)
  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in EHS, Engineering or other Technical/Scientific Degree.
  • A minimum of 8 years industry experience.
  • A minimum of 4 years of EHS experience is required;
  • Must include extensive experience in an FDA regulated environment.
  • Interfacing – site leadership, associates & local, state & federal inspectors is preferred.
  • Technical experience in diverse EHS areas including but not limited to air, water, hazardous and medical waste, machine safety, industrial hygiene and chemical handling is highly desirable.
  • Technical experience in leading and facilitating programs and projects are required. 
  • Demonstrated project management skills are required. Individual must have technical/working knowledge of federal, state and local regulations.
  • Classroom instructor skills are required.
  • Business management – produce & maintain project schedules & budgets is preferred.
  • Interfacing – site leadership, associates & local, state & federal inspectors is preferred.
  • Organizational skills – generate all required reports & record keeping systems is required.
  • Experience is required in identifying, evaluating and controlling EHS risks in the workplace.
  • Ability to quickly interpret complex regulatory issues and provide recommended course of action is required
  • Ability to lead and develop site EHS professionals is preferred. 
  • J&J Worldwide EHS data reporting and tracking systems is preferred
  • This position could require up to15% travel both domestic and international.
