Your tasks and responsibilities
The primary responsibilities of this role, External Communications Director, Consumer Health, are to:

  • Operate as a member of GCBU Leadership teams (Analgesics / Cough & Cold / Cardio & Allergy), providing strategic counsel and planning on category and brand influencer marketing / earned communications with a strong focus on digital strategies and channels which deliver business outcomes;
  • Lead the development of brand specific PR/Influencer marketing programs, embedding PR in the marketing planning to identify its strategic role and creating the associated strategy and toolkit for market activation;
  • Establish and co-ordinate horizon mapping process for each category to identify and prepare for issues which may impact reputation of Bayer Consumer Health or brands. To include development of proactive campaigns "Profense" to mitigate risk;
  • Drive global influencer mapping and management by brand/category in partnership with markets to build engagement and equity;
  • Drive the activation of earned media within priority markets, tracking performance against global KPIs and evaluation of results embedding PR in econometric modelling;
  • Manage PR agency selection with clear management plans and KPIs to deliver strategic, insight driven programs on time and within budget with performance incentives;
  • Partner with other GCBU Communications leads to identify opportunities for global campaigns/stories/content on Bayer CH owned channels;
  • Represent the GCBU's involvement in the Bayer Self-care campaign, identifying opportunities to align GCBU/brand strategy & leverage over-arching programs to halo brand activity;
  • Embed Influencer marketing capability programs into the GCBU with regular training, external influence and best practice sharing;
  • Coordinate media training for senior GCBU spokespeople annually;
  • Build effective relationships with the market communications and GBT members to drive adoption of PR programs and support timely response on issues;
  • Establish strong relationships with the cross-functional teams of other Bayer divisions and the corporate communications team in Leverkusen and enhancing understanding and credibility of the Consumer Health business;
  • In partnership with the Head of External Communications, develop multi-layered thought leadership program to build the reputation of Bayer Consumer Healthcare as leaders in self-care.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree;
  • 12+ years of experience in PR / influencer marketing;
  • Broad brand and corporate experience, preferably including international responsibility at a health care or FMCG company;
  • Persuasive communicator, both written and oral;
  • Ability to work in a complex matrix organization;
  • Strong understanding of brand planning and marketing process and integrating PR to deliver insights based programs aligned to user journey;
  • Proven experience in digital channels and content marketing;
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and as part of a remote team;
  • Tenacious and persistent with high personal accountability;
  • Proven issues management experience on local and global scale;
  • Results driven and solutions oriented, with proven program management skills and focused on delivery to deadlines;
  • Experience in working with industry trade groups, outside public relations and advertising agencies and senior management;
  • Must have the stature to command the attention and respect of other members of senior management and, at the same time, understand the intricacies of dealing with people, particularly third-party individuals and organizations, the behavior of which can have a significant impact on the success or failure of the business both regionally and internationally;
  • Clear understanding of the business goals, objectives, plans and priorities;
  • Highly diplomatic and politically astute in effectively bringing together and in gaining a consensus among people with disparate views and priorities to advance the best interests of Bayer;
  • Agency management, selection;
  • High-level communications skills;
  • Ability to react quickly in a dynamic market place;
  • Ability and willingness to travel as needed, up to 20%.
