Facilities Specialist III - HazMat/Gas Life Safety Technician

HazMat Responsibilities :
  • Conduct & record daily inspections of all hazardous waste accumulations and universal waste areas
  • Check areas for leaks, spills, proper labels, accumulation start dates, etc.
  • Replace full barrels with empty. Put full barrels in storage area.
  • Inventory supplies and re-order as needed
  • Inventory waste and call in pickups as needed
  • Clean up small spills as needed
  • Inventory and stocking all spill kits
  • Manage metal recycling accumulation areas
  • Decontaminate material
  • Handling requests for one-off waste barrels
  • Assist with hazardous waste shipments
  • Manage manifests- copy manifest and send to MASS DEP
  • Any other hazardous waste program task

GLSS (Gas Life Safety Systems) Responsibilities:

New Gas Requests:
  • Run tubing to destination
  • Fabricate, Assemble or Install Electro-chemical detector panels
  • Run cabling from interface panels to detectors
  • Terminate connections
  • Label all connections
  • Test detector functionality.
  • Test all alarm conditions on SCADA
  • Coordinate new sprinkler installations as required to support GLSS Equipment
  • Install detection points on new tools (installation per established BKM)

Program Maintenance:
  • End of line filter changes
    • Every 6 months (cleanroom)
    • Every 3 months (non-cleanroom)
  • Replacement of tubes if contaminated
  • Gas challenge testing to verify the operation and calibration of established equipment.
    • Tape technology annually
    • Electro-chemical semi- annually
  • Consumables Inventory management
  • Annual testing of all controls functionality
  • Verify the functionality of all notifications, shutdowns and screen indications for all buildings
  • Record deficiencies
    • Point impairment Customer Support (planned temporary disable as needed)
    • Backup crucial files
  • Preventative Maintenance:
    • Daily equipment inspections (gas detection and abatement)
    • Equipment tape changes to maximize tape life
    • Electro-chemical cell changes when required
    • Troubleshoot equipment, working with OEM partners if needed
    • Document all existing and new equipment locations and label accordingly
    • Record error history
  • Fire Safety
    • Ensure all fire extinguishers are the correct type for the application
    • Keep all extinguishers up to date
Required Skills
  • Basic computer skills (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Recent Electro- mechanical skills
    • Mechanical assembly
    • Electrical assembly (wire terminations, etc.)
  • Recent Basic electrical and mechanical print reading
  • Recent System troubleshooting
    • Vacuum, mechanical and electrical trouble shooting.
  • Microsoft Excel a plus
  • Recent Manlift operation
  • Safety minded
  • Past experience with gas delivery a plus
  • Compile trend data

  • Technical Diploma
  • 4 - 7 Years of Experience
