Cummins is looking for an extraordinary Field Service Power Generation Technician, in New Hudson, MI. This role is Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday from 7am-5pm. Technical specialist and primary customer support contact to diagnose and execute complex repairs to generators and components at the customer's site.
Establishes and continually develops productive customer relations and ensures prompt and efficient attention to customer needs
Applies the use of specialized tools and follows documented procedures and policies to diagnose and complete complex repairs at customer site.
Performs preventative maintenance activities as per documented schedules and standards on power generation products in the field
Escalates unresolved issues to product specialists / Supervisor
Coaches and develops technicians and/or apprentices and transfers knowledge and experience to others; may provide work direction; may review of repair plans, parts lists, etc
Completes required documentation, such as service worksheets, timesheets, warranty claims, quality documents via handwritten forms or business system input screens.
Completes training in line with skill and business requirements
Maintains service vehicle and tools for cleanliness and proper operation
Ensure adherence to all relevant Health Safety & Environmental policies, procedures and legislation and reports any issues / incidents to site management and to their supervisorQualifications: Skills
Skill Level A
Level II Technician plus:
Ability to train Service Personnel to develop their diagnostic skills
Able to identify opportunities for work process improvements and recommend appropriate action
Able to develop and maintain productive working relationships
Ability to prepare reports providing feedback on service interventions
Able to understand and follow the Technical Support Request ((TSR) process
Skill Level B
Skill Level A plus:
Ability to identify and resolve engine system failures relating to and impacted by component failure
Ability to guide / coach other service technicians (including customer and/or dealer technicians) through complex service interventions and diagnostic issues
Can resolve complex technical problems
Ability to identify and up sell further service and repair opportunities Education, Licenses, Certifications
Apprentice Certified Power Generation/ Electrical Technician (Preferred)
Vocational diploma from relevant technical institution
Current relevant electrical certification
Locally valid driving permit Experience
Significant field service work experience
Expert level knowledge of and/or experience with power generation products
High Voltage / Low Voltage experience
Customer service experience
Experience providing technical advice and coaching to more junior technicians (preferred) Responsibilities:
Cummins and E-verify
- Perform troubleshooting and complete repair on engines and sub-assemblies within a reasonable and expected time frame while maintaining an acceptable level of quality workmanship, within SRT guidelines.
- Field installation, repair and maintenance of Industrial (6kw and above) Power Generation Systems.
- Understand and complete various paperwork, including time reports and work order reports.
- Participate in keeping work area clean at all times, and/or keep company vehicle clean and in good repair at all times.
- Maintain truck stock inventory.
- Properly maintain and interpret various product/service information sources including parts microfiche, service manuals and product support bulletins.
- Successfully complete all Cummins required training courses on a timely basis.
- Continually improve upon mechanical ability by home study course, service parts topics, and other schools and training offered by the company.
- Assist in mentoring and training of apprentice service technicians.
- Drive customer vehicles when necessary.
- Provide assortment of hand tools needed to do repairs, as well as basic electrical/electronic meters.
- Work in a safe, efficient and professional manner.
- Sell our products and services; up sell when possible.
- Work with and assist other departments, branches, customers and dealers.
