Nationwide is hiring a Forensic Accounting Claims Consultant. Qualified Candidates MUST HAVE 7+ years of Forensic Accounting experience (business interruption, employee dishonesty, and inventory losses), a C.P.A., and strong oral and written communication skills. This is a work-from-home opportunity. Individuals can sit anywhere within the United States.

JOB SUMMARY: Utilizes advanced accounting principles and techniques to obtain, evaluate, interpret, record, and analyze financial data of all types and sources in the investigation, evaluation, negotiation, and consultation of commercial business income claims predominately of the most serious and complex nature. Promotes and provides ""On Your Side"" customer service. Responsible for the handling of claims in accordance with prescribed authorization. May provide advice, counsel, and training to other Claims associates.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS: Reports to Claims Manager. No direct reports.

CORE JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

+ Promptly and effectively handles to conclusion all assigned commercial business income claims with little to no direction and oversight. Utilizes advanced accounting principles and techniques to obtain, assemble, evaluate, interpret, record, and analyze financial data of all types and sources in the investigation, evaluation, negotiation, and consultation of commercial business income claims predominantly of the most serious and complex nature.

+ Makes decisions within delegated authority, recommends settlement values in the disposition of serious and sometimes complex claims as outlined in company policies and procedures. Adheres to high standards of professional conduct consistent with the delivery of superior service.

+ Utilizes various methods of settlement and consultation in those cases where warranted. Serves as a technical resource and expert in the review and evaluation of commercial business income claims. Assigns cases to outside vendors as warranted.

+ Opens, closes and adjusts reserves in accordance with company practices designed to ensure reserve adequacy. Recommends Special Reserves where necessary. In accordance with Corporate Reserving Guidelines. Adheres to file conferencing notification and authority procedures.

+ Maintains current knowledge of: GAAP and/or STAT requirements; assigned insurance lines; court decisions which may impact the claims or accounting functions; current guidelines in the claims function; and policy changes and modifications. This may require attendance at various seminars or training session.

+ Provides advice, counsel, and training to Claims Representatives of all levels. Provides specialized training and consultation to non-claims areas as requested.

+ Partners with SIU and Subrogation to identify fraud and subrogation opportunities. Assists or prepares files for suit, trial, or subrogation.

+ Oversees defense counsel in all lawsuit activities from inception throughout the life of the claim.

+ Delivers a positive On-Your-Side customer service experience to internal, external, current and prospective Nationwide customers.

+ Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Education: Bachelor's degree required with studies in accounting, finance, or business administration strongly preferred.

License/Certification/Designation: CPA required

Experience: Six years accounting experience preferably in the insurance or financial service industries and within a specific product/business area. Commercial business accounting or commercial property claims handling experience desired. Forensic accounting experience preferred.

Knowledge: GAAP and/or STAT knowledge, practices and procedures. Insurance and/or business area regulatory requirements. Knowledge of insurance theory and practices, insurance contracts and their application, and business income estimating.

Skills/Competencies: Proven ability to meet customer needs and provide exemplary service by informing customers of the claims process and ensuring a positive customer experience. Analytical skills to make independent decisions and resolve conflict in such areas as application of coverage to submitted claims, application of laws of jurisdiction to investigation facts, application of policy exclusions and exceptions. Ability to coordinate with defense counsel in the handling of cases involving serious and sometimes complex property issues from inception through trial. Command of written and verbal communication skills for contact and/or negotiation. Organizational skills to effectively establish work priorities in accordance with objectives and standards. Ability to operate PC and related software.

JOB CONDITIONS:

Overtime Eligibility: Not eligible (exempt)

Working Conditions: Inside or field claims environment. May require ability to sit and use telephone and personal computer for extended periods. Representatives may be required to operate an automobile and have a valid driver's license with a safe driving record. Must be able to make physical inspections of accident scenes and property loss sites. Must be able to climb ladders, balance at various heights, stoop, bend and/or crawl to inspect vehicles and structures. Must be able to work out-of-doors in all types of weather. Must be able and willing to work irregular hours and to travel with possible overnight requirements. May be on-call. Must be available to work catastrophes (CAT).
