Front End Procurement, Technical Program Management Consultant - Austin, TX (R19866)
As part of the Enterprise Procurement organization, the Front End Procurement, Program Management Consultant is responsible for developing platform cost projections, and over the course of this work, driving cost optimization initiatives from Concept through Plan phases (ex. assessing specifications, designs, feature sets, supply chain design,...etc.) of development that involve driving down costs while delivering the mechanical and electrical architecture desired. The program manager must possess strong technical aptitude to collaborate with system architects & engineers on cost optimized designs & specifications across the functional subsystems. Ability to understand design elements in mechanical and electrical assembly is important. The program manager also provides engagement and analytical support for product innovation activities at Ideate & Incubate phases. Participates in global procurement initiatives and strives to continually improve business processes and procedures. The program manager should also have the ability to build strong, long lasting business relationships internally and externally. Strong presentation and persuasion skills with an ability to clearly communicate across all levels of the organization is also desired.
-Ability to understand engineering design documents such as Schematics, Mechanical Assemblies, etc
Knowledge of server / computer system architecture, and understanding the impacts on overall system design
-Very good knowledge of hardware & software technologies, including market dynamics
-Develop and utilize Cost Modeling tools along with known market conditions to estimate should be cost when assessing design trade-offs
-Develop overall business case recommendations for innovation initiatives by leading and collaborating with x-functional team
-Collaborate with Engineering and Marketing on cost optimization opportunities in an effort to drive down total cost while delivering the mechanical and electrical architecture desired
-Help analyze and identify potential architectural challenges (NUDDs - New, Unique, Difficult, and Different) through working with SQE, suppliers, etc.
-Support DFx inputs in an effort to drive optimized cost and enable challenging design solutions
-Develop product level cost Targets at Concept, Define, and Plan Phases
-Attend and participate in competitive teardowns and identify opportunities on how we line up to competition, and help drive those opportunities into our future generation programs
-Program manage Advanced Engineering, Marketing and Procurement teams to gather necessary inputs towards developing cost targets
-Drive cost optimization procurement specific deliverables such as Cost Bridges and early Total Cost Management (TCM) views
-Support the sourcing strategy by calling out the industry overview, supply chain, cost position and recommendation for Dell management strategy
-12+ years of related experience in a professional role with a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering; or 8+ years with a Master's degree; or equivalent experience
-5+ years of experience in Procurement and/or Engineering
-Existing knowledge of overall design cycle, landscape, and driving cross functional alignment
-Knowledge of existing electrical and/or mechanical technologies and processes
-Knowledge of electrical and mechanical sub tier suppliers and ODMs
-Fundamental understanding of Design For Cost/Value avoidance
-Knowledge of Electrical and Mechanical cost trends
-Cost expertise on structural commodities
-Strong program management skills
-Strong strategic & influencer skills to guide X-functional teams in the appropriate direction
-Familiarity with x86 technologies
