Amgen's 10 - 12 week internship program offers meaningful project experiences that impact patient's lives. This internship provides the opportunity for executive and social networking events and to participate in community volunteer projects while providing a competitive compensation.
Relocation in the form of a transportation allowance will be provided for eligible candidates.
As part of a new group within Commercial information Management the Data Scientist Intern will collaborate with business partners, service owners and IS peers to prototype big data tools to improve user experience for data consumers across the US Commercial Organization. This role will innovate and create significant business impact through the strategic use of technology and information. This position will help create competitive advantages for Amgen with the ultimate aim to provide clean, usable data to whomever may require it.
This position will be primarily responsible for:
Building high-performance algorithms, prototypes, predictive models and proof of concepts
Researching tools and technologies to improve access and use for existing data assets
Creating prototypes and demonstrations to better access and utilize data assets
Employing a variety of languages and tools (e.g. scripting languages, big data tools) to marry systems together
Collaborating cross-functionally with stakeholders to ensure a superb user experience throughout the data integration process
Presenting analysis ideas, progress and results to IS peers and business partners.
Basic Qualifications
Amgen requires that all individuals applying for a grad internship or a co-op assignment at Amgen must meet the following criteria:
18 years or older
Graduated with a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a 3.0 minimum GPA or equivalent
Completion as a first year graduate student before internship starts and currently enrolled in a MBA program for a MBA internship OR a Master's program for a Masters internship OR a PharmD program for a PharmD internship OR PhD for a PhD internship from an accredited college or university
Enrolled in an accredited college or university following the potential internship or co-op assignment
Must not be employed at the time the internship starts
Preferred Qualifications
Pursuing degree in Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Applied Physics, Statistics, or Operations Research
Experience with databases including relational, NoSQL, and Graph
Programming experience with Ruby, Python, SAS, R or statistical software (SPSS and Matlab)
Detail-oriented technical aptitude with strong logical, problem solving, and decision-making skills.
Excellent organization/planning skills and talent for managing many large and complex datasets
Ability to prototype data driven solutions to problems
Ability to communicate analysis in a clear, precise, and actionable manner
Experience working with large data sets, experience working with distributed computing tools (Spark, HBase, Hive, etc.)
