The Enterprise Quality & Compliance Product Line Owner (PLO) organization supports a set of core Quality Management System capabilities and corresponding Information Technology (IT) systems across all business sectors of Johnson & Johnson. The scope of this team is therefore centered on the following product lines: Quality Event Management, Product Lifecycle Management, Complaints Management, and Quality Data & Analytics.


Within this team, the GSS/tru Product Line Owner is the primary contact and IT base-business support partner for the GSS and tru PLM platforms/systems.  This role will have responsibility for maintenance and retirement of GSS and will also partner in developing the support function for the tru platform.


An individual in this role is expected to set the vision and priorities of enhancements to a product, platform, or feature/application in scope of this role.

  • Sets a clear vision for the product and is responsible for multi-generation product strategy
  • Maximizes Return on Investment by identifying and prioritizing the product features by business value
  • Accountable for the Total Cost of Ownership of the product line and driving increased leverage of the products across various business groups including cross-sector leverage

Business Product/Process Owner IT interface

  • Primary IT interface with the business for specific capabilities
  • Understand the business’s needs and priorities from the product
  • Understands economic models to manage prioritization and applies systems thinking
  • Negotiate with the business to determine what enhancements (user stories) are built and which are backlogged based on capacity
  • Accountable for the development work getting done correctly
  • Accountable for the reliability and the performance of the products in the product line in production.
  • Partner with Application Services (AS)/Global Technology Services (GTS) to oversee the overall reliability and performance (aligned with Service Level Agreements)

Business requirements analysis

  • Develops acceptance criteria
  • Understands development estimates and how levels of effort impact the priority of requirements

Program oversight

  • Tracks progress of product development in the context of the larger program (scrum master owns day to day burn down charts)
  • Reports back to the business on status on the delivery of features, functionality, and applications – includes business/stakeholders in product reviews to gain direct feedback
  • Has a combination of global and regional accountability depending on product line scope
  • 25% - Understands business processes and goals.  Defines the business value of the IT solution. Works with the business stakeholders to prioritize demand.  Partners with Supply Chain IT Architecture to select technology that meets business requirements.
  • 35% - Sets and manage Product, Platform or Feature/Application Strategy.  Defines clear vision for the Product and maximizes ROI by identifying and prioritizing the Product features.  Writes the Epics/Stories (Functional Specifications) that will be used by the Scrum teams to develop the business solutions.  Collaborates with Scrum Master to estimate cost and duration of development.  Accountable for the technical solution getting done correctly.
  • 10% - Works with architecture to ensure the business solution is architected correctly.  Collaborates with project managers to ensure J&J project management methodology (ADEPT) is used across all projects.
  • 15% - Lead, coach and develop the members of the team and the team output.
  • 10% - Explores new technologies to drive continuous improvement (CIPs) on behalf of the business.  Develops core capability offerings and new technologies to drive business value. Collaborates with Business Unit IT counterparts in other sectors to share technologies/ideas.
  • 5% - Administrative work
Other Duties
  • Act as a global liaison between various IT organizations to ensure successful delivery of projects and operational support of the platforms.
  • Manage Business Partner satisfaction relative to project deliverables and support.

  • A minimum of a bachelor’s degree is required, an advanced degree is strongly preferred
  • A minimum of 5 years of relevant IT experience is required
  • Relevant knowledge of Product Lifecycle Management solutions and processes
  • Experience working with business partners
  • Experience in managing and leading complex IT projects
  • Demonstrated architectural, process development and systems design skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership, influencing skills, and relationship management (business and vendor).
  • An understanding of Computer Systems Validation is required.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills including formal presentation skills.
  • Budget Management including planning, tracking and partnering with finance to ensure commitments are met.
  • Up to 20% travel may be required

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in the healthcare/life sciences field
