Head of Software Engineering, Cloud Migration
Continuously research new technology services and solutions that could drive strategy, enhance capabilities, create new business models, and drive innovation.
Design, plan, and strategize the transformation and migration of Web-based systems from current AWS environments to the IBM Cloud.
Provide a vision to implement and sustain post-implementation Cloud-based solutions and manage talent to support Cloud-based implementations for IBM and The Weather Company. Architect, design, and develop open source, enterprise infrastructure, applications, systems, or enterprise integration solutions, including tiered, virtualized, and Cloud-based environments. Must be comfortable working directly with senior leaders/executives and have ability to present fact-based business cases that substantiate the value, investments, costs, risks, and timelines of a cloud migration strategy.
Interact with sales/partner leads and technical stakeholders to translate complex customer requirements into recommendations for solution architects and consulting services.
Lead team to develop solutions and target architectures that best fit each service being migrated to mitigate risk
Manage a team of cloud engineers, provide a point of escalation for inquiries, coach and grow team members' skills in consulting delivery.
Work with customer technical leads, client executives, and partners to manage and deliver migrations to cloud solutions.
Participate in cloud technology and deployment research and testing
Participate in, develop and adhere to, professional software engineering practices using such tools and methodologies as Agile, Test Driven Development, Continuous Integration, Source Code Management
Maintain a high level of proficiency with Computer Science/Software Engineering knowledge and contribute to the technical skills growth of other team members
Needs to be able to work autonomously and take self-initiative without waiting for direction finding and implementing creative solutions quickly and iteratively
Create, prove, disprove various ideas, implementations, architectures based on data
Required Knowledge, Skills, Tools and Abilities
Demonstrable skill of object-oriented and functional programming languages and techniques being proficient in development using at least two (preferably three) languages including NodeJS, GoLang, Scala, Clojure or Java
Advanced understanding of and experience with continuous delivery development and deployment pipelines
Experience with modern devops automation technologies (e.g., CHEF, Terraform, Jenkins)
Proficiency with unit testing and test-driven development
Proficiency with version control, preferably Git
Experience with containerization and orchestration technologies (e.g., Docker and Kubernetes)
Experience with IBM Cloud and Softlayer architectures, including containers and runtimes, security,identity and access management, and storage technologies
Experience with at least one modern NoSQL database technology, preferably two or more (e.g, Cassandra, MongoDB, Riak, Redis, Memcached)
Able to communicate information persuasively, concisely and clearly
Able to work closely and effectively with others as well as autonomously
Proven track record of exploring new technologies and developing applications to exploit the opportunities, advantages, limitations, etc. they provide in a timely manner
