As members of the health systems account team, individuals in this position are responsible for the access strategies that underpin AstraZeneca Specialty Care products in Respiratory Biologics and Infectious Disease and for achievement of assigned objectives for both the region and assigned institutions/hospitals. The focus of the Health Systems Manager will be centered on two separate respiratory monoclonal antibodies.
As HSM, you will be accountable for coordinating and facilitating newly approved products onto formulary while facilitating inclusion in the HIT systems in line with approved label. This includes appropriate management and coordination of supporting AZ teams with the health system stakeholders including C-Suite leaders, P&T committees and External Experts. HSMs are accountable for the coordination of activities by NCADs, RCADs, MSLs, PSSs and non-biologics teams.
In addition, as HSM, you will build strong relationships with key decision makers and work to ensure we can identify opportunities to appropriately work with the customer on areas of mutual benefit (e.g., RWE, Development and Implementation of protocols and EHRs that help support better patient care for severe uncontrolled asthma).
As HSM, you will be responsible for nurturing and channeling advocacy in order to support more favorable patient protocols. Paramount in this function is the ability to effectively share scientific information that translates into real world practice. You will be accountable for establishing protocols that optimally transition the patient from the inpatient setting to the outpatient setting. This transitional focus will include engagement in our Access support programs as well as our world class compliance program.
Additional accountabilities as the HSM include:
1. Delivering Results
: The HSM will also be responsible delivering against assigned objectives and for favorably navigating assigned AstraZeneca products through the key influential pathways in assigned systems to include C and D suite stakeholders.
2. Developing/Nurturing thought leaders:
Build relationships with key thought leaders to improve regional views on targeted AZ products. Specifically, raise awareness of AZ Biologics and Synagis with existing experts and develop next generation KOLs by targeting residency and fellow programs through clinical in services and scientific exchange.
3. Developing and executing institutional regional business plans.
Individuals are responsible for targeting, prioritizing and clinically selling to a variety of customers based on approved target lists. These may include, Allergists, Pulmonologists, Neonatologists, Pediatric Cardiologists, Pediatric/Adult Infectious Disease, appropriate residents, Discharge Planners, Clinical Pharmacists, NNPs, NICU Nurses, PICU Nurses and hospital based Epidemiologists. An effective business planning process should be developed and executed with all cross-functional team members.
4. Developing and effectively executing account plans.
Based on national and region strategy, HSMs will be expected to develop and execute business plans that may be account specific or part of the overall regional/national strategy. Effective business planning will include: (1) determining priority and investment level for each account; (2) defining account objectives and developing action plans; (3) identifying/targeting and engaging key individuals; (4) effectively executing business plans and appropriately meeting specific customer needs; and (5) involving/communicating with the proper member(s) of the regional team including Access Strategy, Brand, Reimbursement, and Medical to accomplish objectives.
5. Developing and maintaining customer relationships
. This includes identifying and utilizing internal resources to meet customer needs and developing key customers as product and AstraZeneca advocates, including development of national and regional thought leaders, as well as serving as a conduit to the broader organization for business partnerships.
6. Assisting in the development of long term strategies
that support AstraZeneca and the nation's objectives. By developing and maintaining strategic relationships with key health systems to include top down administration as well as thought leaders. The HSM will be in a position to understand medical trends, developments, and system priorities. This should allow the HSM to advise and help develop long term partnerships on behalf of AstraZeneca.
7. Maintaining effective, on-going communication
within the Regional Business. Individuals in this position are expected to initiate and maintain an effective, two-way communication with internal Sales teams, Managed Markets personnel, Field Reimbursement, and other cross functional counterparts as appropriate. Serve as a regional leader and participate in all key state initiatives and cross-functional meetings as appropriate. Effective and timely use of all available communication channels and tools (voice mail, e-mail, and telephone) is expected.
8. Tracking market intelligence that may positively or adversely affect marketing practices and business.
This includes constantly monitoring the competitive environment and/or any healthcare policy changes/initiatives, which may impact market position. These insights will help inform commercial and assess strategies and approaches.
9. Maintaining specific account records that pertain to interests.
HSMs are expected to develop, maintain, and consistently update a comprehensive customer database as specified in the AZ CRM platform. Additionally, complete reports and maintain records as per AstraZeneca policies.
10. Responsible for maintaining a high degree of honesty, integrity, diplomacy, and ethical behavior within the business unit.
Serve as a role model to other members of the business unit team.Essential Requirements

- Four-year degree, preferably in a scientific/medical or business discipline or relevant experience
- 3+ years proven, successful hospital sales/clinical experience in specialty pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or medical products industry
- Experience successfully navigating Health System formulary pathways
- Recent experience in Respiratory Therapeutic arena
- Experience with complex dynamic of biologic distribution and acquisition at both inpatient and outpatient level is strongly preferred
