Prepares tissues for microscopic examination by pathologist. Prepares specimens by freezing and cutting tissue samples, mounting specimens on slides and staining or treating tissue with chemicals to reveal specific structural details under microscopic analysis. Mounts and labels slides and prepares solutions and
reagents according to established formulae.
A. Licensure/Certification/Registration: Certification by the Board of Registry of American Society of Clinical Pathologists preferred.
B. Education: College level course work in anatomy and chemistry required.
C. Experience: 2 years histology experience. Experience may be obtained through completion of 1 year of an accredited training program in histology techniques and procedures. Knowledge of medical terminology, histochemistry, histology, and basic mathematics and skill at microtomy and embedding tissue required.
