Under general to minimal supervision, the HVAC Technician will be a skilled craftsperson responsible for performing installation, troubleshooting, maintenance, repair, testing, monitoring and documentation/logs of a wide variety of office, utility and facility equipment/systems used in manufacturing plants, utility plants, analytical labs, and office areas. The HVAC Technician will be responsible for completing variety of HVAC, office, utility and facility equipment/systems used in manufacturing plants, utility plants, analytical labs, and office areas. The HVAC Technician will be responsible for completing various quality system and safety documentation. All work must be completed in a safe (in accordance to HRA, JHA, etc.), timely manner according to planning and predefined schedules with minimal impact to production while complying with GMP, SOP, CFR and company regulations.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Under general to minimal supervision, performs breakdown and preventive maintenance of critical utility plant HVAC equipment on a regular basis to include, but not limited to Air Handling Units (AHU), Exhaust Fans, Chillers, Chiller systems, Refrigerators, Freezers, incubators, Warm Rooms, Cold Rooms, Relative Humidity Generators and HEPA Filtering units and filters. The HVAC technician will provide secondary support to the operation and maintenance of manufacturing and production equipment, pumps, industrial control systems as responsibility assigned to Facilities/Utilities Manufacturing Maintenance in both cGMP and non-cGMP areas.
  • May assist in the generation and complete of critical systems change control.
  • Must be familiar with plant and divisional SOPs as related to positional and department responsibilities.
  • Will provide troubleshooting, diagnostic, and repair of equipment and equipment components related to positional responsibilities which includes but not limited to: pumps, piping, and plumbing components, vacuum pumps, sanitary piping, blowers, and facility equipment.
  • Requires familiarity with generally accepted building, plumbing, piping, electrical, and fire protection practices and codes to include NFPA, NEC, UBC, UMC and UPC in compliance with Company EH&S and Factory Mutual requirements.
  • Must follow safety rules and ensure compliance with CA state and federal EPA regulation and laws. Specific responsible system repairs, upkeep, maintenance and operations managed within regulating agencies such as CAL OSHA and OSHA.
  • Ensures personal Training Plan execution and compliance. Attends required training, meetings, and QWTs. Interact with and oversee contractor/vendor work
  • Produce maintenance reports, forms, and records.
  • Provides feedback on equipment, maintenance or other related procedures.
  • Provide regulatory and partner audit support.
  • Interpret and revises electrical schematics, I/O wiring and panel drawings, Utility, process system/equipment, plumbing, ductwork, and HVAC P&ID's.
  • Must constructively interact with peers and clients in manufacturing, maintenance, utility plants, analytical labs and contracted services.
  • May perform general labor duties as needed and may be required to work in awkward locations.
  • Will participate in On-Call rotations for after-hours facility and manufacturing support and may work outside of established shift hours upon short notice.
  • May perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • Basic level of knowledge of cGMP manufacturing.
  • Knowledge of basic industry safety procedures related to job description.
  • Good interpersonal skills and be able to work effectively and efficiently in a team environment. Good customer service skills
  • Beginning knowledge of basic laboratory and pharmaceutical production equipment including but not limited to: Filling machines, process tanks, support equipment, analytical equipment, and CIP/SIP systems.
  • Knowledge of basic chemical and biological safety procedures.
  • Must have the ability to correctly complete high school-level mathematics and be able to work with both the metric and USA standards of measurement.
  • Must be able to read, write, and converse in English.
  • Good computer skills, knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel.
  • Must be able to navigate, conduct searches, and fill on line forms on Personal Computer for the purposes of training, performance management, and self-service applications.
  • Must be able to read and follow detailed written instructions and have good verbal/written communication skills.
  • Possesses very strong verbal and written communication skills, documentation practices (cGDPs),

Education and/or Experience

High school diploma or equivalent and a minimum of 0-3 years' experience in Biotech maintenance or Manufacturing or similar industry. Should have a broad mechanical trade knowledge and skill set. 2 year trade or AA degree/certificate preferred.

Working Environment

  • This position requires 10-12 hour shifts, overtime, weekend and holiday work. May work more than 40 hours a week, as required.
  • Must be able to work in controlled or clean room environments requiring special gowning. Will be required to follow gowning requirements and wear protective clothing over the head, face, hands, feet and body. No make-up, jewelry, contact lenses, nail polish or artificial fingernails may be worn in these work environments.
  • May be exposed to dust, gases, and fumes.
  • Will work in a cold, wet environment and hot humid environments both inside and outside (sun) of facility.
  • May be around moving equipment and machinery.
  • May climb up and into large processing tanks for cleaning or inspection.
  • May be working in a loud area that requires hearing protection and other protective equipment to be worn.
  • May work around chemicals such as alcohol, acids, buffers that may require respiratory protection.
  • May be required to work in a confined area as defined by the Environmental, Health, & Safety office.
  • Will work around chemicals such as paint, flooring materials, refrigerants, alcohol, acids, buffers that may require respiratory protection.
  • May be required to work or be assigned to a different shift as needed.
  • Will have interaction with other people.
  • Pace may be fast and job completion demands may be high.
  • May be required to drive cars, trucks, forklifts and other equipment. Will be required to drive to other facilities to support manufacturing and calibrations.
  • May require work at heights above floor level.
  • May require the use of special auditory or visual protective equipment.
  • May require working with biohazards such as: blood borne pathogens, sewage or medical waste. Will be exposed to equipment that handles plasma based products.
Physical Demand
The overall physical exertion of this position requires medium to heavy work. Times are continuous and my occur multiple times per day.
  • May be required to sit between 1-2 hours.

  • May be required to bend at the neck up to 1 hour.
  • May be required to bend at the waist up to 1 hour.
