: Reporting to the leader of BHF’s infrastructure management group, this individual will define the engineering standards by which myriad third parties will come together and interact within BHF’s technology ecosystem.  While SaaS models are becoming increasingly prevalent across industries, we believe that our target end state is truly unique in the breadth of use of these services and the degree to which standard, cloud-based services will be leveraged.


In leveraging these services, we believe that we will greatly simplify how we will deliver business functions within BHF.  We will remain with vendors’ standard offerings, while at the same time benefitting from the ongoing innovation that those vendors bring.  But while that simplicity should allow BHF to respond more quickly – and less expensively – to changing business needs, bringing together these services for purposes of integrating across business functions and monitoring performance will require specific and ongoing focus.  Ownership for defining the standards and mechanisms for bringing these services together will reside with this role. 


Delivery and ongoing operation of the centralized ecosystem will fall to a managed service provider “general contractor” (MSP GC).  This vendor will provide whatever infrastructure (also hosted externally to BHF) is required to bring these services together into BHF.  It will also be accountable for the ongoing operation and monitoring of that environment.  While we intend to have the    MSP GC bring significant expertise in the design of that environment.  as noted above, ultimate accountability for that design along with associated standards will remain with this role, within BHF.


Finally, BHF intends to heavily leverage automation not only in its business functions, but in IT delivery as well.  For this reason, the person in this role will have a strong DevOps background and will work with the MSP GC as well as other service providers to BHF to implement continuous integration / continuous delivery, “infrastructure as code,” and other DevOps concepts as an integral part of IT delivery at BHF


  • Ownership of the vision and design of the BHF technology ecosystem that brings together multiple “software as a service” (SaaS) providers into an integrated set of offerings.
  • In collaboration with the selected “general contractor” vendor, development and ownership of infrastructure standards that ensure the highly available operations of those services.  This should include:
  1. Standards for sending data into BHF’s environment, including format, frequency, and security (in compliance with BHF’s security policies);
  2. Requirements for resilient operation of third party services such that information can be made available to BHF under a variety of abnormal conditions;
  3. Definition of operations and monitoring standards for all SaaS applications that feed into BHF.
  4. An inventory of operational data that must be made available to BHF such that the general contractor can effectively monitor the availability and performance of external services; and
  • Continual review of technology ecosystem designs and standards to reflect advances in technology and operations relevant to BHF while ensuring alignment to the BHF business architecture.
  • Close coordination with the general contractor on changes to those designs and standards such that they are communicated in a timely fashion to third party providers.
  • Thought leadership in DevOps and other automation concepts that, when applied, should further simplify the operation of BHF’s technology ecosystem.


  • Intelligent, articulate and persuasive leader with excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication and presentation skills.  Must serve as an effective member of the senior management team with the ability to communicate infrastructure-related concepts in a way that is understood by senior leaders. 
  • Capable of distilling the key decision points in defining architectural and operational standards in the creation of the BHF technology “ecosystem.”
  • 15+ years of broad technology experience in managing infrastructure services, specifically in dealing with cloud / SaaS providers.
  • Should have experience managing complex information technology programs, preferably within the financial services or information security industries.
  • Accomplished and effective change leader with people management responsibility and ability to implement the infrastructure management vision for BHF. 
  • Strong, demonstrated experience in managing a variety of vendors in operationally demanding environments.  This should include establishing operational standards and service level agreements with third parties, and governing SaaS vendor relationships
  • Creative, innovative and thorough approach with the ability to operate autonomously.
  • While knowledge and experience of the insurance industry and relevant regulatory environment would be a plus, varied industry experience would be desired to disrupt the status quo in envisioning a fresh approach to BHF’s future platform.
  • Bachelor’s degree and related field experience required, MBA or other advanced degree preferred.
