Summary of Duties
Apply technical knowledge of quality and food safety in a food manufacturing and innovation environment e.g. quality operations, sanitation, food safety, materials management, innovation quality to direct, coordinate and successfully design and execute from a product quality standpoint for new food product innovations and renovations. Work with Product Development/R&D, the Product Evaluation System team, Packaging Technology, Marketing and Consumer Affairs to uphold or create new quality standards and co-ordinate the identification & documentation of product image and defect standards. Provide technical guidance and interpret application of policies and compliance to design standards. Support innovation by working with Quality Ingredient Management, Co-Man, Food Safety to identify and address potential issues related to supplier, ingredient and contract manufacturer approval. Identify and alert the team to any potential Quality issues related to the product design and scale up, including any compliance e.g. organic, non-GMO, food safety and safety concerns and work to resolution. Provide training, documentation and support the plant during sales samples and start-ups using the Image & Defects Reference Manual, job aids, reference samples and other product knowledge and transition the responsibility for the product over to the plant. Support plant and project team to ensure on going compliance with existing Quality standards & development of any new Quality standards/procedures. Organize and facilitate new product image panels in the plant & courtesy reviews at Corporate HQ. Complete New Product Checklist and transition responsibility for the product to the Plant Quality Food Safety team and appropriate Supply Chain Quality Program Manager. Complete risk matrix and new product checklist information for each project (typically 25 - 35 active projects at a time). Understand and elevate issues to enable alignment and expedite issue resolution. Validate product defect criteria using consumer complaint data and conduct 6 month post launch compliance audit. Review and approve the food safety and quality attributes of new and existing ingredients. Provide functional supervision to raw material suppliers in the area of quality, compliance of specifications and food safety. Keep informed on the safety and regulatory compliance of ingredients and potential contaminants and assess risks using technical expertise and knowledge of Kellogg business. Conduct hazard assessments and direct mitigation steps for new products from a food safety and quality aspect. Proactively assess available data and expert information to foresee and quickly react to potential and emerging food safety issues. Act as a mentor and coach for new employees and junior department members.
This position requires a minimum of a Master's degree in Food Science, Food Quality, Food Safety or related field and 3 years of food industry experience as a Quality Program Manager, Associate Quality Program Manager or Quality and Food Safety Technologist for low moisture food forms or related experience. HACCP certification required.
