The actuarial internship program at MetLife Auto & Home provides rising college seniors with the opportunity to apply theoretical concepts learned in the classroom to real world business problems. This program will: teach selected candidates about the business of property and casualty insurance, provide a foundation for casualty actuarial science, foster critical thinking skills, and develop technical skills through the completion of a long-term project. Upon conclusion of the internship, candidates will present their project to a team of business leaders, which will demonstrate that they: have an understanding of property and casualty insurance, are able to apply key casualty actuarial concepts to real insurance data sets, and can employ analytics to recommend a solution to a complex business problem.



  • This position is for an intern within Countrywide Pricing, focusing on Private Passenger Auto (PPA) Ratemaking.
  • This summer’s intern will focus on enhancing PPA rate level indications by utilizing foundational ratemaking techniques, as well as advanced ratemaking techniques, such as Generalized Linear Models (GLMs).
  • If time permits, the intern will also conduct a study that utilizes foundational ratemaking and reserving techniques.
  • At the conclusion of the internship, the candidate will have a thorough understanding of property and casualty ratemaking and reserving and will be equipped to begin work as an actuarial analyst.


  • GPA 3.5+.
  • Completion of 1 or more actuarial exams.
  • Major in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Finance, or a Related Field.
  • Excellent critical thinking skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, VBA, SQL, R a plus.
