Newsday.com is looking for an experienced web producer to help us grow the local sections of our website in the competitive New York metro-area market. This position requires significant web and newsroom experience, strong news judgment, an interest in mobile news and organizational skills. Responsibilities include: Running the homepage of Newsday.com, section fronts and our mobile platform on a day-to-day basis with breaking news and other programming. Working with editors, copy editors and photo editors on breaking news. Using metrics to inform programming decisions and help improve headlines. Assigning and overseeing the work of assistant Internet news managers and interns.
Our ideal candidate is currently running a news website, homepage or section front. Creative and open to new ideas, and plugged into other news websites. Eager to jump on breaking new, as well as being a strong communicator is essential. Well-organized and patient, with project management skills and experience with compelling interactives. Committed to a high standard of journalism with a keen attention to detail.
•Three years of newsroom web producing experience with the ability to be fast, accurate and flexible.
•Past experience utilizing a web publishing content management system.
•Basic HTML and photo editing skills.
•Comfortable with technology and the roles social media and mobile applications play in expanding a website's reach.
•Adept at juggling tasks and calm under pressure in breaking news and deadline situations.
•Knowledge of business, real estate and cars is a plus, but not required.
•Familiar with Long Island and reliable transportation to and from Newsday's suburban Melville office.
•Flexibility to work various shifts including weekends.
