Applies knowledge of GAAP and statutory accounting principles to perform standard real estate accounting tasks. Applies basic knowledge, skills and experience to resolve a range of issues. Applies technical knowledge to identify ways to complete assignments. Prepares journal entries and ensures accurate and timely posting to the real estate general ledger. Prepares ledger account reconciliations and processes transactions related to the real estate portfolio. Reconciles and reviews all manual and automated accounting information from property managers, partnerships and other service providers.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
Responsible for the accounting and analysis of various real estate holdings. Identifies, analyzes and resolves variances generated by the reconciliation process. Prepares monthly journal entries. Prepares monthly account reconciliations. Provides supporting documentation for SOX and Audit purposes. Monitors standard transactions and ensures they are in compliance with Statutory/GAAP guidelines. Recognizes implications of control and process problems and issues. Participates in the implementation of process enhancements. May document system controls and procedures. Prepares responses to ad hoc requests for analyses. Normally receives little instruction on day-to-day work and general instruction on new assignments.
Nature of Impact-
Financial statements and other schedules released externally are expected to be accurate and reliable. The reports issued by the Company are subject to scrutiny by auditors, regulators, and the general public. Incorrect and/or delayed financial reports can result in reputational, financial, or regulatory risk to the Company.
Financial data released internally directly impacts the decisions made by executives when evaluating performance and developing future strategy.
Strong candidates for this position will evaluate and improve established processes to provide efficiencies, cost savings and add value to the organization. Ideal candidates will also be able to analyze financial data to identify trends or anomalies that may require additional research.
This position requires fluency in basic Excel capabilities. Enhanced familiarity with Excel has a positive correlation with success in this position.
Business or Industry:
1-2 years of experience in public accounting or corporate accounting is required.
Networks with personnel internally and across groups to resolve issues and gain needed information. Contributes to projects that have a moderate impact to the organization. Communicates with real estate asset managers, third-party property managers and real estate operations and reporting areas.
Required Education: BA/BS, Accounting/Finance
Required Experience: 1-3 years
Preferred: 1+ years of public accounting experience or real estate accounting experience.
Skills and Abilities:
• Proficiency with Excel (Intermediate) and Word
• Knowledge of GAAP and SOX requirements
• Familiarity with financial statements and footnotes
• Yardi experience a plus
Licenses/Certifications: Certified Public Accountant (CPA) preferred
