MetLife seeks an Investment Associate to join our private equity unit (PEU) managing more than $10 billion of assets on behalf of our general account and affiliated entities. The Investment Associate position is a unique opportunity to work directly with senior management in a small, flat investment organization that has generated strong long-term returns for its constituents. MetLife’s portfolio is invested globally across a broad range of private equity sub sectors, including private equity (LBOs), venture capital, growth equity, energy, distressed debt, and secondary funds.



  • Attend annual meetings, actively monitor our existing funds and update the PEU with Annual Meeting Notes (highlighting major changes to the underlying portfolio - exits, new investments, value drivers / underperformers, org. changes, fundraising).
  • Meet with various existing GP’s to receive updates to evaluate investment progress, team/organizational changes, strategy, and to receive updates on the state of the markets and potential investment opportunities.
  • Assist in the completion of sector reviews for our Distressed, LBO and Venture Capital portfolio segments.
  • Analyze and monitor existing portfolio relationships through annual meeting attendance and monitoring of quarterly reports.
  • Source and track new opportunities with external investment managers, including participation in fund due diligence including review of dataroom, detailed portfolio review and analysis, and fundamental research of portfolio holdings.
  • Preparation of investment memos and presentations for investment committee.
  • Train and mentor junior staff members.



  • Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in the due diligence, selection, monitoring and management of private equity fund investments.
  • Strong analytical, quantitative and interpersonal skills with ability to work independently and in a team.
  • Detail-oriented individual with keen focus on performance and results.
  • Excellent written and oral communication and presentation skills.


  • Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Engineering or similar analytical/quantitative field; MBA or Masters and/or CFA is highly desirable.


Moderate travel is expected (15-20%)
