Job Summary

The IS Business Relationship and Capacity Planning Manager has two primary responsibilities:

  • Perform as the primary liaison between IS and the assigned Business Units (BUs),
  • Analyze and report on IS resource capacity planning and assist the EAS and Portfolio Lead in enterprise portfolio and demand planning.

The IS Business Relationship and Capacity Planning Manager has significant knowledge in subject matters pertaining to both IS and the BUs.

 

 

The IS Business Relationship and Capacity Planning Manager is responsible for:

  • assisting the assigned BUs and IS in the prioritization of initiatives/projects,
  • ensuring that data in the portfolio of initiatives/projects are maintained and accurate,
  • creation and maintenance of IS resource utilization plans and schedules,
  • identification and escalation of IS and client resource constraints,
  • assisting the assigned BUs in creation of business case justifications for their technology needs,
  • shapes initial enhancement/project requests, provides a high-level estimate of project effort and costs used in cost-benefit analysis, and creates initiative summary sheets (business case justifications), when appropriate,
  • escalates BU technology problems and needs to the appropriate IS group(s) for resolution.

As the IS Business Relationship and Capacity Planning Manager may work with IS architects, development and infrastructure managers to discuss potential solutions that match the business strategy with the technology strategy. This position works with the IS group leaders to discuss staffing needs, high-level timelines, and the associated costs for the business case justifications. Throughout projects, this position stays informed on the project status in order to: 1. provide business managers with regular status, and 2. understand and communicate its effect upon the overall IS initiative/project portfolio, and resource schedules.

The position requires the ability to understand the business sufficiently to communicate the importance of requests/projects to the technology teams, as well as to understand the technology sufficiently to communicate the complexity in simple terms for the business.  The position also requires familiarity with portfolio and resource management tool concepts.

  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Strong presentation skills
  • Demonstrated effective listening skills and strong customer focus
  • Proficient at finding win-win approach to meeting business requirements and resolving conflicts
  • Demonstrated ability to build strong working relationships at all levels, internal and external to the organization
  • Ability to work effectively across geographically dispersed teams with minimal supervision

Minimum Qualifications: (including years of experience preferred)

  • A Bachelor’s degree is required. A concentration in accounting, business, or technology is preferred. A Master’s degree considered a plus
  • At least 5 years’ experience with IT governance, portfolio management, master scheduling, and resource capacity planning
  • At least 5 years’ experience in IT project definition, planning, scheduling, and estimating
  • Technical familiarity with the Microsoft technology stack preferred
  • Experience in public accounting or professional services industry is preferred
