The Data Sciences group within Pharma IT department of Janssen is looking for an outstanding IT professional who is interested in leading, designing, developing, and fielding data mining solutions that have direct impact to Patients and Janssen. Our IT department spans across the entire value chain at Janssen Pharmaceuticals from discovery to after launch enabling this person to work with various business units to help identify viable data mining opportunities and then implement end to end data analytical solutions. The role requires both a broad knowledge of existing data mining solutions, leadership and creativity to invent, customize and work in a multidisciplinary environment to drive business solutions.


The IT Manager, Data Sciences will be part of a dynamic, accomplished informatics team that will support one or more areas such as Epidemiology, HEOR, Medical Affairs, Clinical development, translational medicine and clinical biomarkers; He/She is accountable for executing business requirements for projects, achieving project objectives, ensuring effective integration of new systems and technologies.


  • Serves as a technical leader in the field of Data Sciences, with specific expertise in one or more areas: translational informatics, health informatics, medical devices, clinical diagnostics and electronic health records
  • Understands how IT works end-to-end and the impact of solutions across the enterprise
  • Responsible for design, develop, analyze, implement and support analytic solutions for project execution especially in the areas of Real World Evidence Activities
  • Works in collaboration with business team and/or Business Relationship Manager/Business Analyst to understand business demands and identify opportunities
  • Oversees development of software tools, applications, and analyses to support business uses of health informatics data across R&D and the Enterprise, including Therapeutic Areas, Quantitative Sciences, General Medical Safety, Epidemiology, Health Economics and Outcomes Research, Medical Affairs

Additional decision making responsibilities include:

  • Addresses complex problems with broad implications for IT architecture, balancing the often competing needs of standardization and innovation
  • Ensures solutions are consistent with business objectives or business strategy
  • Contributes to the strategic planning process and long-term direction for IT and aligns plans between stakeholders

Supervision Received/Provided:

  • Participates critical projects that may be matrixed, cross-functional, and/or global in nature
  • Anticipates business needs to influence the development of solutions
  • Leads the formulation of innovative ideas and solutions on products, processes, and systems
  • Partners/manages vendors necessary to complete a project

  • Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 7 years of relevant experience OR an advanced degree (Master’s, PhD or MD) with a minimum of 5 year of relevant experience is required.
  • Familiarity with clinical data management from one or more of the following areas is required: real world evidence (RWE), clinical laboratories, clinical trials, health outcomes, and/or electronic medical records.
  • Experience working with complex, multidisciplinary teams in a matrix environment is required.
  • Knowledge of SDLC is required.
  • Experience in business analysis is required.
  • Deep working knowledge of business intelligence solutions design & implementation, methodologies and business applications is required
  • Technical scripting or querying skills are required.
  • Business analysis demonstrated capability on data visualization/data discovery with technologies such as Spotfire/Tableau/D3/SAS Visual Analytics is a plus.
  • Experience working with and supervising contractors is preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and able to drive tasks in a diverse team is required.
