There is unprecedented demand for enterprise information and technology coming from new markets, new products and new divisions. We are in the process of shifting our IT agenda from one enabling bottom line to top line growth; where IT is embedded in revenue-generating services/products and solutions; and IT-based invention causes disruptive change in industry profit pools. Moreover, this transformative period occurs when most IT budgets are being consumed with running the business, pinching the resources available for innovation. The challenge is shifting from implementation to innovation on a lower base of investment. This shift will be supported in part through strategy realization with focus on managing strategic intent, operating model simplicity, workforce and workforce planning, culture, and change management.

We are seeking an Organizational Capability lead in our IT Strategy Execution group who will work in service of the Office of the CIO to ensure capability and skills of IT employees are aligned with the intent and vision of the IT Strategy. This role is global in nature and expected to define and execute sound organizational capability requirements that help drive Merck IT's business transformation, working in partnership with HR and strategy and planning leaders across the division.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Act as change lead for multi-year IT strategy - driving intent, people and delivery aspects of transformation
  • Evangelize "simplicity" as a driving force for change
  • Engage and contribute to transformation teams to enable strategy realization, with a particular focus on IT talent and culture
  • Maintain "holistic view" of transformation and bridge connections across teams to drive realization
  • Benchmark and identify levers for change across organizational architecture, operating model, talent base, culture, governance and incentives
  • Support the development and implementation of the near- and long-term roadmap for strategy realization
  • Orchestrate and facilitate collaborative sessions to drive strategy adoption and realization
  • Convene, educate and engage key stakeholders on progress to plan
  • Support and engage IT leaders in strategy realization and promote their involvement
  • Facilitate tight linkage with strategy development, portfolio, architecture, and innovation
  • Enhance collaboration, externally across business clients, and internally across IT
  • Contribute to the advancement of the IT operating model by establishing shared services for inter-organizational and enterprise strategy realization
Support the development of workforce and workplace plans in support of strategy
Support innovation as a path to breakthrough thinking

Education Minimum Requirement:
  • Bachelors degree in business or technical field with emphasis on Business Management or Organizational Behavior
Required Experience and Skills:
  • A minimum of 8 years experience working with large cross functional teams in talent development or organizational development/capability with geographically disbursed team members
  • Experience working in and managing teams in a matrix organization structure
  • Ability to lead and inspire a team of people to give discretionary effort and drive outcomes
  • Experience building high performance teams by increasing employee engagement to achieve high performance results
  • Strong project management skills to coordinate actions from across the organization and deliver timely, quality deliverables
  • Ability to assess organizational gaps, and design recommended capabilities to ensure the structure and dynamics of the organization is aligned with IT Strategy to achieve business goals
  • Able to gather and orchestrate various points of view, rather than developing solutions independently
  • Strong business acumen, and easy rapport with executives
  • Presence and ability to influence on issues impacting the core business
  • Organizational savvy; leveraging social network to escape hierarchy
  • Excellent communication skills; ability to use storytelling and metaphors to engage key constituents
  • Ability to engage and listen attentively at various organizational levels, extract information and discern pain points
  • Ability to recognize when simplification is required to enable insights and to move discussions forward
  • Proven experience at creating and fostering a collaborative atmosphere
  • Lead with ideas, evidence and examples derived by experimentation
  • Ability to quickly build advocacy throughout the organization
  • Work with a sense of urgency, tenacious execution, meeting timelines and deliverables
  • Emotional intelligence and strong interpersonal skills to develop relationships, influence perceptions and facilitate change without direct reporting authority
Preferred Experience and Skills:
  • MBA highly desired
  • Experience with PMO (project management office) processes
  • Experience with health care, consulting or cross-industry exposure
  • Prior experience with strategic planning processes and organizational levers for change
  • Pragmatic Six Sigma Process Improvement and Change Management skills are highly desired
  • Strategy execution experience (with focus on intent and people risk management)
