POSITION SUMMARY: This is an Operations position responsible for maintaining and repairing SYSCO fleet equipment to ensure availability and reduce breakdowns. RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Performs major and general mechanical repairs to SYSCO vehicles and reefer units including trouble shooting mechanical problems and identifying their solution in an effort to correct malfunctions and reduce further breakdowns.
  • Follows PM schedules on all equipment.
  • Completes repair of vehicles in accordance with DOT and State laws.
  • Maintains accurate records of each repair performed on SYSCO vehicles.
  • Maintains shop area by keeping tools and equipment picked up; cleaning up liquid spills; sweeping floor; dumping trash, and performing other related duties.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Class A license.
Education and / or Experience:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • One to three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Certified Motor Vehicle Inspector for Tractor/Trailer.
  • Certificates, license, registrations in diesel engines, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and braking systems.
Professional Skills:

  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Knowledge of basic welding and use of acetylene torch.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

The noise level in the work environment is usually loud (diesel engine noise and shop equipment).
