Responsible for overseeing and managing all laboratory spaces (lab space, garage space, and outdoor test environment) occupied by the Panasonic V2X Team.  Leads and supports the end-to-end engineering of complex Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS). Works closely with the Systems, Architecture, Hardware, and Software engineering teams to facilitate the advancement of technology concepts, applications, and designs through a technical gating process.
  • Designs, develops, and implements cost-effective methods of testing and troubleshooting systems and equipment for all phases of product development including scheduling engineering activities and maintaining equipment for the three primary Panasonic V2X laboratory environments which includes:
Indoor Lab Benches:
  • Lab Bench Activities: HW in-the-loop bench testing; simulation; equipment testing & validation; engineering equipment work space; project server location and access; etc.
  • Lab Bench Equipment: 3-5 work benches; server; local network access; computer work stations; GPS repeater; work tools; miscellaneous engineering tools and supplies; etc.
High-Bay Garage:
  • High-Bay Garage Activities: Vehicle technology installation, simulated motion vehicle testing; field work staging area; equipment assembly; integration testing; vehicle interface testing & validation; indoor RSU/RF testing & validation; etc.
  • High-Bay Equipment: 4-6 SUVs; RF Room Enclosure; 4-6 work benches; GPS repeater; computer work stations; complete workbench toolset; vehicle exhaust system; local network access; miscellaneous engineering tools and supplies; etc.
Outdoor Controlled Test Environment:
  • Outdoor Controlled Test Environment Activities: Site for V2X Demonstrations outdoor RF testing; live roadway V2X application testing & validation, etc.
  • Outdoor Controlled Test Environment Equipment: 100 percent V2X coverage with installed roadside units
  • Roadside cabinets providing access to backhaul communication (local network access) and power
  • Solar-powered field trailers for mobile roadside unit locations
  • Develops and maintains an asset management system. The asset management system may include the following:
  • Provides a method to document all laboratory assets, including experimental vehicles and any hardware/software properties part of the Panasonic V2X laboratories.
  • Tracks any hardware and software updates to experimental vehicles or other equipment that has shared use, including the creation of a logging system for in-vehicle changes.
  • Tracks any software or firmware updates on any devices in use, with a clearly defined label with hardware/software part number or version number.
Laboratory and Equipment Maintenance Services:
  • Procure materials and equipment to maintain normal Panasonic V2X operations, including spare parts.
  • Maintains the Panasonic V2X laboratory environments and the associated equipment to ensure normal operating conditions.
  • Maintains the health of external interfaces and connections to: data sources; connected vehicles technology interfaces; web connections; and, wireless network connections.
  • Coordinates connectivity to the laboratory tools and technologies with engineering teams and external partners as necessary.
  • Maintains full operation of the Panasonic V2X vehicle fleet including but not limited to managing a gas card for re-fueling the fleet, provides a vehicle maintenance schedule, a mileage log and any requested vehicle data to the property manager.
  • Maintains all equipment onboard vehicles and ensures operational condition meet all standards.
  • Collaborates with engineering teams and other partners as necessary, for vehicle and equipment upgrades and maintenance.
  • Provides engineering support to laboratory activities and functions.
  • Assists in developing verification plans and executing those plans to ensure technology solutions are compliant with system requirements.
  • Ensures technology solutions move through the development and verification process efficiently and on time.
  • Leads and supports demonstration activities and provides engineering support.
  • Focuses on Dedicated Short Range Communications (DSRC) 5.9GHz for vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V), vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2I), and vehicle-to-device (V2X) system design, development, implementation, verification, validation, and fielding.
  • May organize and participate in vendor negotiations, product and software evaluations, tutorials and facility modifications.
  • Conducts meetings that may involve design presentations to internal and external customers.
  • Plans and executes on-site and off-site project demonstrations.
  • Ensures best practices are followed.
  • Interprets and complies with Company policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • Prepares reports, charts, graphs, and other statistical information.
  • Will initiate, recommend, or provide solutions through designated channels.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

  • Four-year College Degree in at least one STEM major (Science; Technology; Engineering; Math) and a minimum of eight (8) years of STEM engineering experience and a minimum of five (5) years of laboratory management experience.
  • Knowledge of Windows and Linux Computing Environments.
  • Experience working in a test lab environment and running RF test systems.
  • Must have analytical abilities, be organized, and detail-oriented.
  • A seasoned, experienced professional with a full understanding of area of specialization; resolves a wide range of issues in creative ways.
