Job Summary:

The purpose of the lead carrier manager is to lead a group of 6-10 carrier managers in the execution of 100-150 brokerage shipments daily. Strategically align capacity with in a geographic region that meets both the cost and service expectation of both internal and external customers. The role must effectively build long term strategic relationships with a variety of carriers and be capable of understanding and executing across multiple customers KPI's to exceed business objectives.

Scope:


The role must be able to effectively balance cost and service operationally as well as lead a group of 6-10 carrier managers. The role will be responsible for meeting industry standard benchmarks in both service and margin percentage.

Accountabilities:
  • Full accountability for P&L execution with in a geographic region as well as contribute to the overall brokerage AOP
  • Full rate approval and buying ownership within a geographic region
  • Strong working knowledge of a strategic carrier capacity with in a geographic region
  • Strong working knowledge of customer's supply chain, requirements, and new initiatives
  • Achieve industry standard marks in service and buying
  • Responsible for carrier managers portfolio development, management, negotiations, and relations leading to strong long term carrier partnerships
  • Develop and lead key brokerage SOPS and Protocols
  • Participate in on-call, after hours and weekend duties as determined based on business needs

Scope of Interactions:
  • 40% External - New and existing asset based carriers
  • 60% Internal - Collaboration with business development, account management, and leadership team

  • Ability to lead and influence a team to exceed business expectations
  • Ability to articulate and transfer knowledge of freight brokerage market dynamics and industry best practices to carrier management team
  • Ability to provide ad-hoc brokerage pricing to support both account management & business development
  • Ability to effectively interact and build a favorable business relationships with all carriers and customers
  • Ability to influence a carriers to provide capacity during all supply / demand cycles
  • Strong team player and committed to teamwork in all situations
  • Ability to thrive and flourish in a fast paced business start up
  • Willingness to support account management and customer service tasks
