Role Summary/Purpose

Train Control is a dynamic set of systems that are on the cutting edge of technology in the Transportation Industry, supporting the design of a diverse set of critical functions on the locomotive from air brake to human machine interface. In this role the engineer will work with customers, various suppliers, and/or engineering functions to identify and capture requirements and execute the design. Train Control is charged with integrating a dozen different systems onto the locomotive.

Essential Responsibilities

The Lead Engineer / Technologist will demonstrate leadership in communicating business goals, programs, and processes for an area or business segment. In this role you will utilize your experience or expertise to solve problems, develop and execute objectives for self and others, and have the ability to effect short-term and some long-term business goals.

In addition, you will:

* Execute a variety of projects from Requisition Design through NPI developments, ensuring proper definition of requirements and interfaces for Train Control systems

* Use sound engineering principles and adhere to business standards, practices, and procedures, to develop product / program requirements

* Provide technical leadership to personnel supporting the assigned project

* Lead / support investigation, root-cause identification, and resolution of reliability issues

* Document technical data generated by the assigned project consistent with engineering policies and procedures

* Provide timely communications on significant issues or developments

* Become the program representative for Train Control on NPI programs and requisitions, managing schedule, outward communication of successes and failures

* Participate as a presenter or reviewer in technical and program reviews

* Present to customers and suppliers and lead technical endeavors to develop Train Control technologies for the railroad industry

* Assure proper documentation of technical data generated for the assigned projects and/or tasks consistent with engineering policies and procedures

Qualifications/Requirements

* Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, or Computer Science (or a high school diploma / GED with at least 4 years of IT, engineering, scientific or other technical experience)

* Minimum of 3 years of experience in an engineering position

* Minimum of 1 year of experience with serial and/or Ethernet communication link design and test

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:

* Ability and willingness to work "hands-on" in test labs and on locomotives with high HP (1000 KVA), medium voltage (2 KV) and high current (10 KA) systems

Additional Eligibility Qualifications

Desired Characteristics

* Masters in Engineering

* Experience with system and component level validation testing

* Experience with transportation/locomotive systems, control, diagnostics, design and test

* Experience with Human Machine Interface and human factors analysis for embedded systems

* Experience with Design For Six Sigma (DFSS) tools (i.e. FMEA, Score Cards)

* Strong technical aptitude, including applicable engineering tools and systems

* Minimum of 1 year of experience working with Train Control systems

* Minimum of 1 year of experience developing system modeling using Matlab Simulink or similar program

* Strong technical aptitude, including applicable engineering tools and systems

* Solid oral and written communication skills

* Strong interpersonal and leadership skills

* PC proficiency
