The Lead Records Manager will have accountability for designing a strategy, collaborating with a diverse set of stakeholders and operationalizing a plan to develop the organization's Records Management (RM) function. Directs operations that may include records management, forms management, electronic information and image management, paper records and corporate/related archives to ensure information is managed efficiently and effectively. The Lead Records Manager is accountable for the day-to-day management, oversight and direction of the records management program.

In terms of teaming, the Lead Records Manager will lead a lean, cross-functional internal team that is supported by a leading Managed Service Provider (MSP) and other service providers. The Lead Records Manager will also be responsible for collaborating with Brighthouse Financial’s compliance, data governance, operational risk management, legal and audit functions.  Cost and associated risk factors will be key variables to rationalize and balance to ensure program success.


This Lead Records Manager will be responsible for developing a strategic plan for a Records Management program (RM) using leading practice methodologies to support and achieve long-range organizational goals. As part of the strategy and plan, the Director should:

  • Serve as the primary records management subject matter expert for Brighthouse Financial
  • Review, recommend, and revise RM and/or related policies to achieve compliance with technology, legal, and RM requirements.
  • Review RM program effectiveness by setting benchmarks, evaluating program performance, and reallocating resources.
  • Develop and maintain RM policies and procedures by reviewing and analyzing recordkeeping methodologies and requirements consistent with industry best practices
  • Establish RM program methodologies for the management of information assets in electronic, paper and digital formats. 
  • Partner with IT to develop leading practices and procedures related to managing electronic information repositories
  • Provide program and project information to executive management and stakeholders.
  • Demonstrates the value of the RM program and makes training and technology recommendations. 

The Lead Record Manager will also be responsible for communications, internal marketing and risk management:

  • Communications and internal marketing:
    • Establish and maintain collaborative relationships through participation in industry associations.
    • Communicate RM program requirements and goals through coordinating education and establishing internal relationships to reinforce compliance, leading practices, and industry standards
    • Collaborate with Compliance and Corporate Communications to develop and deliver a communication and outreach strategy for promoting awareness and integration of the RM program across the organization.
  • Risk management:
    • Respond to requests for compliance information to assist in organizational governance.
    • Manage, evaluate, and maintain the RM disaster preparedness and business continuity program.

  • 10+ years of professional experience in records, with at least 5+ years in a management role for managing records.
  • Strong communicator, creative, intelligent, self-disciplined and highly industrious.
  • Enjoys working in a growth oriented, entrepreneurial, high-energy environment.
  • Proven experience in planning, organizing, and developing Records Management solutions in multiple business verticals.
  • Ability to conduct needs assessments for electronic records/information management technology and storage.
  • Ability to develop and implement policies, procedures, and strategies for managing unstructured electronic records, including documents created using e-mail systems and word processing, spreadsheets, and presentation applications.
  • Knowledge of applicable domestic laws and regulations as they relate to records and information security.
  • Certification(s) preferred - Certified Records Manager (ICRM); Certified Information Privacy Professional (IAPP); ERM Master (AIIM
