Responsible as Team Lead over assigned Telephony Engineers for all telephony equipment, circuits, troubles and projects. Additionally is responsible for assisting and training less experienced employees in telephony tasks and concepts.
Core Technologies include: Sonus Tandem platform elements e.g. PSX, SGX, GSX, and SBC, IMS CORE and TAS, ALU TAS, Oracle SBCs, Broadsoft.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Actively and consistently support all efforts to simplify and enhance the customer experience
Assist and coordinate the efforts of all Telephony Operations Engineers within the assigned Team for configuring and troubleshooting Telephony equipment.
Configure, analyze and troubleshoot telephone protocols and systems unassisted.
Propose network solutions and network architectural revisions that comply and are consistent with BELLCORE standards (Bell Communications Research) as they apply to switching, voice transmission and testing, internetwork signaling, customer CPE (customer premise equipment) requirements, and interoffice trunking, etc.
Create networks that provide carrier class reliability, high quality voice transmission, and enhanced features (e.g., three-way calling, operator services, E911, long distance calling access, etc.)
Assist in the preparation of interconnection designs, agreements, and collocation with ILECs, IXCs and third party trading partners.
Create detailed method of procedures (mops) for Telephony Operations Engineers for implementation.
Review and guide Telephony Operations Engineers in mop creation and implementation.
Assume a leadership role during major outages, coordinating not only within the Telephony group but between functional areas including internal organizations and vendors as required.
Assume a leadership role in all Residential and Business telephony issues, coordinating not only within the Telephony group but between functional areas.
Create documentation standards, assist and guide Telephony Operations Engineers in the implementation of department standards.
Guide, train and assist other Telephony Operations Engineers in maintaining, upgrading and deploying core telephony equipment.
Train and expertly perform all functions of a Telephony Operations Engineer I/II/III.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Skills/Abilities and Knowledge
Working knowledge of PSTN (public switched telephone network) telephone industry practices, including knowledge of Bellcore standards (GR-317, GR394, GR909, etc.)
Ability to read, write and speak the English language to communicate with employees, customers, suppliers, in person, on the phone, and by written communications in a clear, straight-forward, and professional manner. Ability to analyze and interpret data.
Effecively communicate with Sr. Management, Trading Partners, etc. as well as negotiate effectively with internal and external personnel, prepare scopes of work, and prioritize and organize effectively.
Ability to work well internally and externally with people from different disciplines and varying degrees of technical and business experience.
Advanced knowledge of circuit switching architectures and technology (e.g., SS7 signaling, dial plans, trunking, etc.).
Firm grasp of common word processing, spreadsheet, presentation, design software and concepts.
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or equivalent work experience
CCNA/CCIE or other industry certifications

CCNA or Demonstrate IP knowledge, L2, L3, TCP, UDP and telephony equivalents.
Bachelor's Degree in Telecommunications or equivalent work experience

Industry and vendor specific certifications and training (NCTI, SCTE, BCT/E) or equivalent work experience
