Reporting directly to the Head of Capital Strategy and Planning, this position is responsible for managing cross-functional efforts to support the company’s capital strategy through statutory, GAAP, and economic capital frameworks and proactively mitigate risks related to capital requirements. This role will also partner with Risk to establish and monitor capital risk targets and limits.

Other Key Stakeholders:  Treasurer, CFO, Head of Capital Strategy and Planning, Investments, Actuarial, Risk, Controller, FP&A, Tax, Legal, Lines of Business, Underwriting, Auditors, Regulators, Rating Agencies, Banks



  • Lead development of capital models that support active, integrated, and just-in-time calculations and projections of capital positions, especially related to statutory capital
  • Lead development of models that allow just-in-time analysis of capital ratings from S&P, Moody’s, AMBest, and Fitch, as well as ALIRT and Comdex, to anticipate current and project future capital positions as well as other metrics in support of various ratings
  • Assist in the development of capital strategy in collaboration with key internal stakeholders to support the company’s business strategy and remain compliant with various capital requirements
  • Provide leadership for the company’s statutory capital reporting efforts, including the process of completing annual, quarterly, and audited statutory statements
  • Support the company’s statutory, GAAP, and economic capital reporting efforts
  • Support the management of relationships with domiciliary regulators
  • Support efforts in capital optimization for efficiency
  • Manage and validate the calculation of statutory, GAAP, and economic capital measurements for accounting and risk stakeholders
  • Manage communication efforts related to statutory, GAAP, and economic capital considerations to stakeholders, including senior management, regulators, and auditors
  • Understand and communicate the implications of all significant transactions from a statutory, GAAP, and economic capital framework
  • Manage financial and regulatory reporting activities related to statutory, GAAP, and economic capital usage
  • Manage reporting activities to the Board of Directors and senior management related to capital strategy
  • Perform other related activities as required



  • 12 - 15 years of experience with increasing responsibilities in the areas of corporate finance, capital management, and capital strategy within large financial institutions
  • Strong understanding of statutory, GAAP, and economic capital frameworks
  • Experience with capital management, detailed analyses, and coordination with senior leaders on implementing actions to take advantage of opportunities or mitigate economic risks identified
  • Industry leading knowledge of financial markets and economics
  • Superior analytical skills and strategic thinking ability
  • Undergraduate degree in related discipline required; MBA, CPA, FSA, and/or CFA strongly preferred
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and management skills with the ability to persuade, negotiate, and arbitrate to influence others to effect change and achieve desired results
  • Demonstrated ability to consider multiple views while making business decisions
