   Risk Management



The Leader, Risk Analytics is a new position being created, responsible for the design and implementation of Brighthouse Financial’s Risk Management analytical models, tools and capabilities. This position will report directly to the Head of Enterprise Risk Management.  The role is designed to develop methods and capabilities within Risk Management, as well as for our partner organizations (Treasury, Actuarial, Finance and Investments) to address the complex reporting, monitoring and analysis of positions relative to the Risk Appetite Statement and the effectiveness of hedging strategies, product pricing and liquidity management, and other critical risk mitigation activities. The role will liaise with other subject matter experts within Risk Management and the other partner organizations. The incumbent will support and collaborate with business unit model owners and will support the development of risk analytics and reporting.


The primary objective of the function is to ensure a comprehensive understanding of the risks impacting the strength of the Balance Sheet and the effectiveness of mitigation strategies being implemented.  The incumbent will be responsible for the developing state-of-the-art risk metrics designed to support managing within the stated Risk Appetite.


The incumbent will need sufficient experience, stature, and credibility in the organization (including Investments, Actuarial, Treasury and Finance) to provide the effective support and challenge.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and build models and analytical tools for use in measuring and monitoring risk exposures and enhancing understanding of the risks and trends impacting the strength of the company.
  • Develop an effective risk reporting package designed to enable deliberate risk decisions.
  • Engage and coordinate with partner organizations within the company on development of models and methods to manage risk effectively.
  • Provide guidance to associates within the company on best-practice development and use of models.
  • Effectively communicate and accurately represent the enterprise model risk profile with all stakeholders, including regulators.
  • Set a team climate that aligns to the Brighthouse culture
  • Employ inspiring leadership qualities that result in motivated teams




Business Knowledge/Technical Skills:

  • Graduate degree preferred in Finance, Mathematics, Statistics, or related field
  • 10+ years of experience with risk assessment and validation, or design and use, of mathematical models
  • Deep technical (mathematical) background
  • Accomplished change management leader, able to operate effectively in a highly matrix environment
  • Demonstrated ability to design and manage implementation of sustainable and repeatable analytical tools and processes
  • Communicates and accurately represents the risk profile of the business or strategies to business and function leaders
  • In-depth knowledge of insurance and annuity modeling systems, practices, theories and related analyses
  • Proven track record as a subject matter expert, adept at leveraging technical skills to address business issues and fulfill financial objectives

Travel will be limited as Charlotte, NC is the corporate headquarters with infrequent travel to operations in Convent Station, NJ and Tampa, FL.
