Arconic Fastening Systems & Rings has an opportunity for a Lean & Continuous Improvement (ABS) Engineer who will be responsible for the planning, implementation and follow-through of continuous improvement initiatives established within Arconic’s operating model: the Arconic Business System (ABS). The ABS Engineer will coordinate and lead a wide range of activities that are designed to improve on-time delivery, productivity, quality, cost, safety and environmental performance. This position is located in Verdi, NV (Reno/Tahoe area).

Key Responsibilities:
  • Facilitate successful Kaizen and rapid improvement process events with both internal and external consultants, customers and suppliers, with a major emphasis on locally focused improvement. Provide the support all follow-throughs required to sustain the improvements during the events.
  • Coordinate, assist and deliver team-based and ABS training to support enhanced organizational performance through imparting a thorough knowledge and ABS concepts, principles, and practices.
  • Assist team leaders in team skill and knowledge development to support meeting management goals, project management, improvements, results measurements, problem solving and related team skills.
  • Provide assistance and support focusing on the perfection of ABS techniques. Identify opportunities for improvements.
  • Assist in the collection of data for tracking improvements.
  • Coordinate with resource departments to fabricate, install and implement improvements.
  • Ensure that all work activities are performed in accordance with established safety and environmental standards.
  • Maintain full compliance with Company policies and procedures and conducts all activities in accordance with the Arconic Guide to Business Conduct.
  • Demonstrate a knowledge of, and commitment to, ABS manufacturing principles and techniques.
  • Completes reports and forms, as required.
  • Promote and demonstrate the ABS methodologies and concepts at all times.
  • Ensure that all work activities are performed in accordance with established safety and environmental standards.
  • Develops strategies and programs that improve the productivity and efficiency of the various work processes of the company.
  • Instructs others in continuous process improvements, including the use of various problem solving and productivity techniques such as process mapping and cost time management.
  • Facilitates employee teams to build cohesiveness and improve the overall results of the respective teams' tasks.
  • Language Skills - Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos; ability to write simple correspondence
  • Strong verbal communication skills - ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization; ability to prepare and present training; ability to influence.
  • Mathematical Skills - Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals; ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Reasoning Ability - Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or verbal instructions; ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Computer Skills - To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Good planning and organizational skills
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and drawings
  • Ability to use standard machine shop measuring instruments.
