The Life and Health Valuation area within Brighthouse Financial Actuarial is seeking to fill a full-time actuarial student role.  This candidate will be responsible for analyzing the results of valuation calculations, explaining reserve variances and interpreting financial trends, identifying significant variances in earnings items and researching explanations, testing and modeling new regulatory requirements, supporting GAAP projections.  Other duties include responding to requests from regulators, auditors, and accountants.

 

 

  • Report results of GAAP valuation calculations. Verify and test calculations
  • Be a key player in the migration to a new modeling system
  • Perform monthly analysis to verify reserve calculations.  Explain reserve variances and interpret financial trends
  • Update valuation systems for new products and funds as well as valuation assumptions including annual valuation assumptions, and regulatory changes
  • Modify validation models to assist with various ad-hoc analyses
  • Prepare data for industry and company analysis of emerging regulations
  • Prepare actuarial portions of the financial statements and the federal income tax
  • Answer ad-hoc questions pertaining to the reserves
  • Complete rating agency surveys according to the Financial Reporting Timetable
  • Respond to requests from regulators, auditors, and accountants

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Actuarial Science or a related discipline. 
  • Pre ASA.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office applications and VBA. 
  • Excellent technical and analytical skills
  • Self-starter, results-driven, customer-focused and strong team player/builder
  • Ability to work with others in a team environment.
  • Ability to grasp new concepts quickly.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Familiarity with actuarial concepts including life contingencies a plus.
  • Insurance industry experience a plus.
