- Mechanical and analytical skills are required for this job . A machine operator is commonly expected to know how her equipment operates and be able to identify and repair simple mechanical problems like stalls or jams. He/She also must have good organizational abilities to make sure all the materials needed for operating are readily available and logically arranged for the production process. This job requires a good eye for detail to easily spot defects.
- Efficiently produce goods according to quality standards is the main job of a machine operator. He/She is normally required to meet hourly or daily quotas. The job requires knowledge of regulatory devices on the machines that control speeds and temperatures that need to be adjusted for pleating different products in various materials He/She is required to keep his equipment, supplies and work area clean and orderly. Perform other duties as direted by the suervisor. Some lifting is required up to 50 pounds.
- The work environment is a typical factory environment. Noise levels are reasonable and hearing protection is not required. Buildings are not typically air conditioned but many fans circulate air. Protective eye gear, safety shoes and gloves are typically required.
- A high school diploma or equivalent is usually required for this job. Good writing, math and communication skills are necessary to be a machine operator. Knowledge of machine operation and maintenance gained from previous positions is preferred.
