Discover Financial Services (DFS) seeks a highly motivated team player with a solid credit experience and business partnering background. This position will provide credit risk management and analytical support for the DFS Counterparty Credit Risk (CCR) team, which is part of the Corporate Risk Management (CRM) Department at DFS. This role offers an excellent opportunity to provide thought leadership on enterprise-wide credit risk issues related to counterparties and active collaboration with team members and business units to enhance the overall enterprise-wide risk management framework of DFS.* Maintain credit responsibility for a portfolio of major U.S. and foreign public and private corporate entities. * Perform comprehensive financial due diligence on third-party vendor relationships, providing risk assessment and analysis to recommend an Internal Credit Rating. Monitor ongoing counterparty credit risk of the portfolio.* Provide additional support to counterparty team responsible for financial services portfolio, primarily comprised of commercial banks, broker-dealers, money market mutual funds and insurance companies.* Proactively monitor industry trends and company developments to ensure appropriateness of counterparty risk assessments, and recommend any risk assessment changes as necessary.* Prepare and distribute various CCR reports.* Collaborate with CCR team members, CRM groups and DFS business units to enhance the management of enterprise-wide credit risk.* Analyze CCR management processes and systems and recommend/implement improvements.* Promote a risk-aware culture, ensure efficient and effective risk and compliance management practices by adhering to required standards and processes.
Skills
Required Skills:* Bachelors Degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field of study.* 5 or more years work experience in counterparty credit risk analysis or commercial lending, preferably with a focus on analyzing financial statements and evaluating risk within the public corporate sector.* Solid understanding of SEC filings, rating agency documentation and financial ratio analysisCore understanding of capital markets products (swaps, derivatives, repos, foreign exchange, etc.) and related industry standard documentation.* General knowledge of key industry and accounting issues, along with U.S. and global economic, regulatory, and political issues.* Excellent communication (both oral and written) and organizational skills combined with established collaboration skills.* Demonstrated problem solving, decision making, and leadership skills.* Proficiency in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.Desired Skills:* MBA, CFA, or advanced degree preferred.* Direct management/supervisory experience is preferred, but not required.* Credit analysis of structured products (credit card and/or student loan ABS, MBS/CMOs, ABCP), sovereign/country risk, supply chain finance or CRA lending is a plus.* Experience with S&P, Fitch Ratings, Moodys, Bloomberg and SNL Financial tools is a plus.
