Manager of Surgical Services / Operating Room / OR

Assures the delivery of professional nursing care within the Operating Room by assessing, planning, organizing, directing and evaluating nursing care provided to all surgery patients; collaborates with the OR Educator in education and training of all department staff both in the initial implementation phase and on an ongoing basis; develops staff by department specific needs assessment, development of goals and objectives, implementation methods, evaluation measures; develops, maintains and interprets policy and procedures; maintains fiscal responsibility for department.
  • Responsible for implementation of professional nursing care for all patients
  • Participates in coordination of care with OR Team Leader/charge personnel
  • Mentors and develops supervisory team
  • Develops and maintains working relationships with medical staff
  • Acts as liaison between OR staff and administration, medical staff and other hospital departments
  • Communicates facility information to staff both in scheduled and impromptu meetings
  • Performs performance appraisals, in collaboration with clinical unit leadership, in timely manner
  • Works collaboratively with director, administration, finance department and unit leadership in both operating and capital budget processes
  • Models excellent customer service relationships and participates in community leadership

  • Graduate of a Professional Nursing Program and current Texas State RN licensure or compact license is accepted
  • BSN preferred
  • Current Healthcare Provider BLS issued by the American Heart Association required
  • Current ACLS issued by the American Heart Association preferred
  • Current CNOR preferred
  • Recent experience in Operating Room Nursing of at least 5 years
  • Management experience of at least 2 years
  • Strong clinical knowledge in surgical nursing
  • Needs minimal sustained direction in assessing needs, directing staff and carrying out departmental and professional responsibilities
  • Self-starting and self-motivating
  • Working hours may exceed 8 hours per day and is based on what is needed to accomplish work at hand
