Role Summary:

As a Manager, Software Engineering, you will be responsible for leading an agile software development team with focus on new innovative software solutions.

Essential Responsibilities:

In this role, you will:

+ Coach, mentor and lead a diverse group of lean/agile software and user experience engineers

+ Work with product owners across the businesses to understand market needs & vision; quickly translate that vision into demonstrable software

+ Quickly define and deliver working software prototypes

+ Work with product owners and architects to develop multi generation software technology plans

+ Work directly with customers to understand business and technical needs

+ Drive increased efficiency across the teams, eliminating duplication, leveraging product and technology reuse

+ Support process improvements which guide the development, sustaining & support activities

+ Work cross functionally with other business departments to align activities and deliverables

+ Drive world-class quality in the development and support of products

+ Keep project data relating to tracking and financials current

+ Deliver resource strategy and plans, including use of 3rd parties/partners, etc., in support of development and support activities

+ Plan and manage budgets related to scope of team

+ Communicate effectively both within immediate team and GE leadership. Ensure team receives consistent messages and has clear understanding of business direction, strategy and results

Qualifications/Requirements:

Basic Qualifications:

+ Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or in "STEM" Majors (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math)

+ A minimum of 5 years of professional experience in enterprise application development OR Master's degree with 3 years of experience in enterprise application development

+ Must be willing to work out of an office located in New Orleans, LA.

Technical Expertise:

+ Strong knowledge of Object Oriented Analysis and Design, Software Design Patterns and Java coding principles

+ Hands-on experience in web services (REST, SOAP, WSDL etc.), Maven, SQL Database such as Oracle MySQL, PostgreSQL etc.

+ Hands-on experience in utilizing Spring Framework (Core, MVC, Integration and Data)

+ Hands-on experience with web development using HTML5, Java Script, jQuery, CSS. Experience with Play framework, Angular is a big plus.

Business Acumen:

+ Strong problem solving abilities and capable of articulating specific technical topics or assignments

+ Experience in building scalable and highly available distributed systems

+ Expert in breaking down problems and estimate time for development tasks

Leadership/ Personal Attributes:

+ Proactively identifies and removes project obstacles or barriers on behalf of the team

+ Shares knowledge, power, and credit, establishing trust, credibility, and goodwill

+ Able to work under minimal supervision

+ Excellent communication skills and the ability to interface with senior leadership with confidence and clarity

+ Able to work well with global teams, including time-zone flexibility

+ Skilled in providing oversight and mentoring team members. Shows ability to effectively delegate work.
