The Risk Management Organization

Risk Management - Claims Team
The Manager – Claims will report to the Director – Claims and will have responsibility for managing three claims professionals who provide oversight, evaluation and analysis of Workers’ Compensation, Automobile and General Liability claims. The position will also provide oversight to Employment Practices Liability and Business Travel Accident claims. In addition, the Manager will be responsible for developing and utilizing processes and metrics that will mitigate Verizon’s claims exposure by driving efficiency and measuring outcomes. The position requires strong analytical, decision-making and collaborative skills as well as proven ability to communicate with stakeholders and leaders, in a clear and concise manner. The Manager will work closely with the Director - Claims as well as the Directors - Insurance and Captive Operations, and the Assistant Treasurer – Risk Management & Insurance on program execution and outcomes analysis.
Manage the activities and productivity of 3 Verizon claims professionals, 70 outsourced claims management personnel, and 25+ law firms through the use of metrics and analytics of large data sets.
Own the development, implementation and communication of processes and strategies to mitigate Workers Compensation, Automobile Liability, and General Liability exposures and enhance a culture of continuous improvement.
Develop and evaluate metrics of claim trends, including analysis of Key Performance Indicators to identify areas of risk and opportunities and provide recommendations to the Director - Claims and the Third Party Administrator (TPA).
Partner with the TPA to enhance and develop use cases for Predictive Models/Analytics.
Serve as a Subject Matter Expert to the business client on claim issues and for defining and executing action plans for claim resolution.
Manage Verizon’s compliance with state and federal claim reporting and legal requirements as they pertain to worker’s compensation and other claims areas.
Present and communicate to all levels of the business.
What we’re looking for...
You'll need to have:
A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Risk Management, Economics or equivalent work experience.
Six or more years of relevant experience with demonstrated leadership opportunities.
Deep knowledge of Workers’ Compensation, Managed Care and Tort Law concepts.
Strong understanding of the insurance claims marketplace as well as insurance policy language and structure
A high degree of analytical capability with the ability to structure business cases around a high-level strategic vision.
Even better if you have:
A Master's in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, or Economics.
A professional certification (e.g. CPA, CMA, ARM, CPCU, CFA).
Understanding of common business and cost drivers and deep-dive analysis.
Experience in continuous improvement initiatives, root cause analysis and project management.
