The Manager – Claims will report to the Director – Claims and will be responsible for managing professionals who provide oversight and analysis in Property, Environmental, Asbestos, Crime, Financial and Professional, and other insured claims. In this role the Manager – Claims is responsible for the outcomes of a portfolio of diverse claims through direct interaction with Verizon’s Third Party Administrator(s) (TPA), brokers, insurers, attorneys and claim preparers. In addition, the Manager will be responsible for oversight of the Risk Engineering program. The Manager will develop and execute all claim related analysis and data management activities with external partners. The position requires strong analytical, decision-making and collaborative skills as well as proven ability to communicate with stakeholders and leaders, in a clear and concise manner. The Manager will work closely with the Director-Claims as well as the Directors of Insurance and Captive Operations, and the Assistant Treasurer – Risk Management & Insurance on execution and outcomes of various claims.
Direct the activities 10 outsourced claims management and claims preparation personnel, 5+ law firms, and 20 Risk Engineering personnel
Own the development, implementation and communication of processes and strategies to manage and mitigate Property, Environmental, Asbestos, Financial and Professional, and other insured claim exposures and enhance a culture of continuous improvement with external business partners.
Develop and evaluate metrics of claim trends, including analysis of Key Performance Indicators to identify areas of risk and opportunities and provide recommendations to the Manager - Claims, Director-Claims and external business partners.
Serve as a Subject Matter Expert to the business client on complex claim issues.
Present and communicate to all levels of the business.
What we’re looking for...
You'll need to have:
A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Risk Management, Economics or equivalent work experience
Six or more years of relevant experience with a strong management background.
Demonstrated leadership skills in managing others without direct authority or control.
Even better if you have:
A Master's in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, Risk Management or Economics.
A professional certification (e.g. CPA, CMA).
High degree of strategic and analytical capability, including the ability to access large data bases and analyze large amounts of data.
Strong strategic skills, with the ability to identify and assess key points, implications and recommendations of large multi-million dollar claims;
Proven ability to structure business case around a high-level strategic vision.
Excellent communication skills and ability to focus on the details.
Demonstrated experience in continuous improvement initiatives, root cause analysis and project management.
